I'm trying to head up to Big Bear on Sunday, @oni06 and I think @bprout were considering coming up too. As of right now I'm not planning on hitting any actual 4x4 trails cause my preggo wife might be coming along, but still be fun to go up into Big Bear via the dirt roads and not the highway. Get some snow under the tires hopefully

If she doesn't come along with me then I'd be up to do one of the 4x4 trails up there, maybe White/Gold Mountain or something. I'm not sure how much snow is currently up there since it's warmed up this week, so it's hard to say what would/wouldn't be doable.

Current view from the bald eagle cam up there.
Still snow on the ground. Trees are pretty green though.

Nice, yeah looks like a good bit has melted from last week though. But there is a storm coming through tomorrow that they say will bring snow at 7k feet, so upper portion of Big Bear should get hit.

oh damn, maybe not as melted as I thought. That bald eagle did a good job of cleaning the snow out of his nest I guess lol

yeah it will likely just be an easy cruise up the mountain to drive around in the snow, thinking we could go up Coxey Rd since it's not listed on the road closures page on the forest service website. I'll post again here tomorrow to confirm when/where

im down to go! I think 3n14 is a fire road that snows a lot and beautiful view. Nothing crazy, most crazy is a small water crossing. But I don’t remember how to get there haha

It's pretty easy, you have to go out to Hesperia on the high desert side where Coxey Road begins. As long as it stays open after Saturday's storm we should be good

4x4 on 255s, you'll be fine on Coxey Rd. At worst it just gets muddy and washed out but there's nothing terribly steep or off camber about it, when it's dry out you could probably even take a Subaru up it and be fine.

But for Sunday 4wd will definitely be needed because of the snow/wet conditions

Shortly after I took the screenshot there was a second bald eagle that showed up.
