^^ I don't see how it should cause anyone to be less effective on the battlefield.

Apparently some people are afraid that they'll get hit on. Maybe they're afraid the "gayness" will rub off on them if they spend too much time around them.

Like I said before... if a gay man is joining the military to catch a glimps of another guy's junk in the shower, or to flirt with a soldier, they picked about the most difficult way possible to go about it. :D

some of this, a little of that
I don't care if someone is gay and serving in the military. If someone is willing to fight and potentially die for our country then hats off to them. What the do in their personal life is thier deal not mine.

You bring up good points- Why not fix it all at once?? There are 600 odd members of congress...dozens and dozens of "special advisors", all the cabinet members. You really think they need to focus on one thing at a time?? Repealing DADT is easy-It includes/stop alienating a segment of the population, affects an organization built on the concept of "I tell you to do it, so you do it" and has a built in enforcement program thru the UMCJ....Easy thing to fix imo.

Unfortunately, the things that will be the hardest to fix are the deeply ingrained irrational phobias that some have about serving beside homosexuals.

True...but the military is a "You'll do it cause I told you to do it" organization. So just like folks for hide drug, alcohol, domestic abuse, or any number of other issues from their commands for a while...Folks with bigotted attitudes will hide it or make a decision that will out them and they will be punished for it.

I was trying to make the point that they should try to focus on more important issues at hand. And I never said they shouldn't focus on multiple issues.
But given the current crisis that our system is in, I'm not sure how repealing DADT is going to help us out any, or how it's going to fix the more important issues of the day in my opinion.
Maybe they should focus on it some other time, just like I said in my previous post.

But I guess you're trying to say that they have the vast amount of man power to focus on other issues too, which I can understand to a certain extent.
So basically what I'm trying to say, is that I don't want to hear anything about DADT, I just want to hear about what they are trying to do to help out the economy, and more important issues at hand.

A lot of interpreters and intelligence workers have been dismissed from the military for being gay, and that is pretty important because we count on these people to protect us and our troops overseas by obtaining and analyzing crucial information.

    .

Gays and/or Lezbos in the military never bothered me. What bothers me are the "homophobes", especially the ones in congress that are preaching an "anti-gay" message while they are cruising the male bathrooms, tapping their feet for a BJ and both parties are guilty of this stuff.

This past week in Atlanta, a famous athletic & buff "anti-gay" male minister (Eddie Long) was just exposed for playing house with 4 under age boys.

The enemy is out there training to kill us and we're arguing whether or not one should be able to be openly homosexual. Here's an idea - check your sex life at the door. That goes for everyone.

"They" all do not....and how about the "pimps" "players" "hoes" "sluts" "nymphos" "bros" "emos" etc ect ect that are straight. All have folks that are just a outrageous as the "flamers" you are trying to say that every gay person is.

Funny...Cause I would say only an idiot would chime in with an uninformed opinion on a subject he knows nothing about.

I have posted here that I think you are a bigoted moron...Your hang up about how bad gay and lesbian people are and how you must be right is what divides people and creates issues.

Obviously things are not okay- cause there are high performing people with valuable skill sets who are being separated because of what they choose to do on their off time.
In my opinion folks who have serial one night stands or treat women like entertainment are as much of a "risk" to other soldiers as gay/lesbian.

I do have a little boy-and when it comes time that he asks questions about why people do what they do- I have no problem explaining to him that everyone is free to make their own decisions and do (within reason) whatever they please. Unlike your kids who will hear how bad people who don't think the way you do are and how they should never be like that.

I find it interesting that you seem to think that letting gays into the military will turn the armed forces into some sort of sex centered organization. There is too much work to be done 95% of the time for people to worry about stuff like that..and in the other 5% people manage to talk/work/hang around without talking about all the sex they have...so that's really not a very accurate picture.

It's funny that you have to resort to name calling to try and make my point look less sensible. I can see where you are a big tolerant teddy bear when it comes to gays. Don't bother back peddling- Everyone can go back and look at the way you refer to gay/lesbian individuals in this thread and tell what your opinions of them are...

You haven't read a thing said here...There are good folks being excluded from service because they want to live a lifestyle that has nothing to do with their work. That's a problem.

What's wrong with Don't Ask Don't Tell is that a lot of good people and effective operators/quality service people get run out of the military (or never join up) because of the simple reason that they are homosexual.

Your sexual orientation should have no effect on how you DO YOUR FUCKING JOB. And if your job performance suffers because you are afraid that the guy next to you wants to plug your cornhole, then the problem lies with you, not that person.

Our military suffers because we exclude some of the brightest and best, simply because they are gay, and others would rather place their bigotry and phobias ahead of recruiting the best and brightest regardless of orientation.

Oftentimes they do follow the rules. But not all military life is lived on base.

Many times they Don't Ask or Tell anyone, but through external circumstances, are outed to their superiors.

So, they are following the rules.

And don't call someone a liar when you have no firsthand knowledge. You just come off as ignorant and bigot.....oh wait....
