Oh there will be some mods all right
There's a reason so many people run the Falken tires, the performance per dollar can't be beat. There are better tires out there, but not for that price.

falkens have treated me well. They seem to be pretty tough too I've yet to blow one out on trails that apparently eat tires. They do suck in mud but that's expected.

I'm on my second set of BFG AT's, and have previously tried the General BFG knockoffs and Cooper ST Maxx's.

I had the BFG's first, and I think they're the best all around tire, good on road, good off road.
The General's didn't wear all that well, so I don't think they were worth the money I saved over the BFG's.
The Cooper's were easily the best performing off road, also looked the best, but also wore pretty poorly.

So, I went back to BFG's. YMMV.

I’ve been real curious about the Dick Cepek EXP. looks like a real competitor against the at3w and the ridge grappler.

Depends on how you intend to use them. I run a LOT of asphalt. I went with MICHELIN LTX A/T 2. Sooooo smooth and comfortable, and a bit more aggressive than other Michelins...buuuuut they're Michelins, and don't have the attitude some of these other tires have, and I imagine in serious wheelin' they may come up short. I couldn't be happier though. They see gravel roads daily and I've gotten a bit of snow and am truly impressed.

I'll give a recommendation for the Falken Wildpeak AT3s for a pavement pounder and light offroading. In my experience, they have excellent wet traction, good snow traction, and better than average treadwear. I run a snow tire in the winter and they marginally outperform the AT3 on ice. Snow/slush is pretty much a wash. Mine weren't so hot in mud, but its mostly yellow clay around here. It gums up regular ATs pretty quick.

Overall, the AT3s are a great all-around tire. If you are mudding or rock crawling regularly, another tire may be better suited for those use cases.
