Just picked up my ARB bumper, got home and unpacked it. Its got a pretty decent size gouge on the side of one of the bars. I know these things are meant to be scratched up but just sucks since it's brand spankin new. My question is whats the best way to patch this? Mask area and a few layers of black spray paint? Any recommendations on type of paint? Any help is appreciated.

Tremclad semigloss black is a decent match to powder coat. They don't know what rust is in Australia. You'll be doing yearly touchups from stone chips anyway.

If your area sees road salt, don't leave it be. Rust will form under the powder coat and entire sections will bubble up and flake off.

I'm not gonna leave it be, gonna at least mask it and spray paint it. Don't get salted roads luckily as I live in Southern Oregon but I want it to at least be black. I did realize I'm overreacting a bit as far as upset I am though so just gonna quit whining and get to installing! Thanks all!

Does ARB ship on an open pallet or in a box? My Pelfrey bumper shipped in a box strapped to a pallet with a lot of padding inside, so the powder coat was in perfect shape.

But this is the perfect opportunity to colormatch! Assuming you can find rattlecan that's close to your truck.

    What haven’t I changed?
On my first truck I had an ARB that came with a deep scratch like that. I just masked it off and hit it with a bunch of layers of satin black enamel and sanded it smooth before final top coat.

The first ARB that I ordered had a sizable dent in on of the hoops. Had them replace it with another. Showed up in a day.

It was insanely wrapped up, and the weird part is where the scratch is had its own separate padding with even more cardboard and padding. Makes me think it was scratched before it got packaged. Picked up some satin paint and sandpaper. Gonna try and touch it up. Also thanks!

Personally, I would lightly sand off the gloss and go with rattlecan rustoleum nedliner. It will be more durable than regular paint and more rugged looking. Regardless of which paint you choose, I would still lightly sand and repaint the whole bumper. It will be too obvious and difficult to color/clearcoat match that one area.
