I remember 10 years ago seeing a small pair a mechanic had and I watched him use them and I was like wtf??? So I asked him and he told me they were one of most useful tools he's had for that job(manufacturing maintenance, so not many at all auto level torque specs). I thought they were cool af. They werent Matco.... It was another one like that sold out trucks like that though. Not snap on either
Edit:right when I hit send it came to me, Cornwell

I love those old hand tools from the 50s 60s made back up in steel country like Pennsylvania and stuff, when tools we made here in Murica were some of the best
Like the kind you find at most pawn shops for very reasonable pricing:D:cool:

I hitup estate sales. Pawn shops here tend to only collect the tools of people who can't afford drugs. Which are usually just HF to begin with haha

Got a couple of bright ass flashlights from my TWSS...opened them up thinking it was something I ordered lol. Can never have too many flashlights...I think I've got 6 in my truck now. Might be time to take a couple out and leave them in the house.

My wife loves going to estate sales and if I tag along that's usually all I look for...tools. Or old cameras.

Estate sales, that's a good idea. How the hell do you find them? Those posters with ads it seems I see every now and then?

Half of the ones I have are the freebies you get with harbor freight purchases...they're actually pretty decent. Their batteries suck though. But I have a ton of those free AAA batteries they give out too lol.

I follow posters and signs when I see em. But I watch the local Craigslist postings for them too. There's a guy near me that I know pretty well that buys toolboxes from retiring mechanics and machinists and parts out the tools too. I get most of my snapon, SK, and Matco stuff from him.

I have one like 5 minutes from me and I haven't been in there in years it seems. I'm bugged that I've missed out on all this free stuff though. Flashlights and batteries? And they're decent? I gotta get in on this next time

They have coupons all the time for free things with any purchase, flashlights and magnet LEDs, batteries, little things like that. HF is good for stuff like that. I know we beat the HF to to death but for a hobbyist DIY'er like me it's a perfect place to get tools for a job.

Pfft thats a generalization. If you buy they're more expensive lines it's not that bad. I have some of the Hercules and Bauer power tools that have yet to let me down.
If they ever do I might change my tune but the only things I've gotten from there that suck are their batteries and zip ties.

I won't touch any of their power tools, too much runout and not enough of a price differential vs a good brand. But their hand tools are pretty okay, minus screwdrivers and a few choice pliers. I try to keep their presence in my collection to a minimum. There's something more satisfying about using a quality tool when it something you use a lot.
