Now I confused, You saying the red and yellow is power from the ignition is connected to the red wire coming out of the fuse box?

 

It should have blown a 10amp fuse long before it melted a wire.

It almost looks like this was designed to fail here in case of heat

 

You should have one 12v running from your switch on your dash that runs to the relay to trip the relay and one 12v running to the relay that runs through the relay that powers the compressor

 

Is it an inline fuse? if it is then your problem is some where along that wire?
Trace that wire from one end to the other to see if it is shorted out some where

 

It may be a problem with the compressor

 

You melted the ARB harness or is this some make shift stuff?

I’d be nervous if wires are melting under the dash. Definitely get some bigger gauge wire for that much power going through.

 

If it is melting the wire it needs a smaller fuse or a fuse.

 

Its been 2 years since I wired mine up. I don’t even remember where I tapped in at. I know my compressor is pulling all power off of the battery of course, but idr where I’m pulling power for the switches.


The only thing I’ve ever had burn in my truck were jaybirds headphones plugged up. Jay it’d replaced those things quick with new ones. I think they were worried about a lawsuit on that one.

 

So I repaired the connection and everything works as should! JB I’m going to let you look at it tomorrow before we ride to get your input. Idk if the wire melted or that was how it was designed to fail if a surge of energy hit that one spot. I can say it failed when I switched it on. So it sounded like a fuse issue or power surge but no fuses were blown

 

That wire you showed was most likely a inline fuse like this one.

Should I replace the fuse or just leave it? ARB had been working fine for months?

 

You need a fuse there then, get one like this one


I would not put those wires back together without a fuse, something made it blow. if a fuse is not there to blow then it could cause all kinds of problems or a fire.
