Since you seem to think that quoting people who agree with your point of view makes you right...I'll quote a few folks with some military service who think DADT has no place in the military any more.

At this point it's obvious I'm talking to a person who talks a great game about respect...but has no clue what that really means. Have a great life...

I'm sure you live in a great little neighbor hood with "all sorts" of closed minded judgmental people who are exactly like you...Sounds like a good place for you to stay...Wouldn't want to offend your delicate sensibilities.

PS-Nothing I've advocated here is "socialist" Get a quick lesson on the words you are using before you try them out in public....mmmmkay??

Just for clarification, which one of the above statements do you want to commit to? First you say that the DADT policy is working (meaning that gays in the military are ok as long as they don't tell), then you say that gays shouldn't serve at all... pick one.

I don't recall disagreeing with anyone but you about the DADT...Your derogatory bigotted (we've been over the definition already) view of homosexuals is obvious and that's what I have a problem with. Your "moral" values are great- They are yours. That doesn't mean that someone else should have to live by them...Which is what DADT forces them to do.
I have a problem with the way you talk about gay and lesbian folks...Not that you think DADT is okay.

You made two conflicting statements. You can only back one or the other, not both.

    1) gays should not be allowed to serve in the military at all
    2) gays serving in the military are fine... as long as they don't tell anyone

These are basically the two statements you made. Which of those two do you really believe?

    Mush Mouth,

No one is trying to cram anything down your throat - you're not even subject to the policy we're discussing. Stay in your lane and do not make assumptions about what soldiers want. You even quoted me telling someone else something similar.

I could give two fucks what anyone thinks about the morality of homosexuality. All I am concerned about is when we repeal this policy, what will happen to unit cohesion? In my opinion, we have bigger fish to fry right now.

Homosexuals can and are serving, so the issue is not whether or not we are losing out on the contributions those individuals can make, it's what level and basis of sacrifice they're having to make to serve in the time being.

Come on Mush Mouth... it's easy. All you have to do is type a "1" or a "2" to let everyone know where you stand.

That makes sense. The "two front" battle we are working right now with constricting budgets has created enuf tension and angst in the ranks- Waiting a little longer might be a good idea.

Alright, since we now know that you'd prefer that gays not serve at all, how do you feel about people of other ethnicities serving? What about women? Be honest.

Oh, and not that it's ANY of your fucking business whatsoever, but NO, I'm not. :brianr:

I think at this point it's pretty safe to say we have a troll on our hands.

This thing has gotten so far off-topic, it's silly.

MXPatriot -- what examples of effects are you concerned about with unit cohesion? I understand that there would be some immediate backlash, but I would hope that the NCOs and Officers would make it quickly apparent that any retribution (or outright attacks) would not be tolerated -- especially in a theatre of war where infighting would cause undo distraction.

I'm not discounting your concerns -- far from it -- I'd just like a clearer picture of why you feel it would cause a disruption in unit cohesion.

Military leadership has a hard enough time keeping straight service members from screwing each other, and currently there are a lot of commands getting in trouble do to fraternization. This is all with male and female living quarters being separate. Now imagine if homosexuals were aloud in. I guarantee you that leadership will have an issue with shower and "sleeping" arrangements.

Currently we have the DADT policy in effect, and believe me it is not perfect. Homosexuals are getting in and have been for years. And to be honest people can be homosexual and there MUST be hard evidence to get the individual out, otherwise it is there word against the accuser's. Hell, blow jobs and butt sex is punishable by the UCMJ under the definition of sodomy. but has anyone heard of that going to court?

Personally, I have mixed feelings on the subject. I view it about the the same as adultery, and just because it is socially expectable doesn't make it right. I think DADT works for what we need it for, and if you wanna enlist THAT BAD, then lie!

Remember, this policy affects everyone, not just Joe's. What happens when the Platoon Sergeant or Company Commander comes out of the closet?

I can make a Soldier obey his Platoon Sergeant, I can't make him respect him. A combat effective leader is one whom soldiers follow because they want to, not because they have to. It's not a proud moment to admit that many soldiers would lose respect for a leader who admits to being homosexual, but it's reality.

I think it's something that will eventually happen and we will handle it. There will be bumps in the road, but we've been there, done that before. Remember, the Army was one of the first organizations to desegregate during the civil rights movement.

My frustration is that more people are concerned over DA-DT than winning a unique and challenging two front war. DA-DT shouldn't be the first, second, or eleventh priority right now.
