Anyone with experience snow camping in the tepui.
I got a little coleman tent heater and a 0degree bag. Am I doing it right? Supposed to drop to 19 tomorrow night in south lake and I like my toes the way they are..alive. Any recommendations?

    Hotel?

Seriously, you'll probably want to use the heater sparingly and rely on the bag for warmth. Wearing socks and a beanie will help you stay warmer as will taking a bottle of hot water to bed-make sure the lid is on tight!

    Enjoy your time in Tahoe!

hah yea it was a consideration to just fork up for a room, but its one of those things I’ll give a try and if I hate it then its only once. Im definitely bundling up and bringing extra layers to compensate.

    Same.

@Twizted - Sorry to hear you weren't satisfied with their CS. If he is still with them, call up and ask for Josh. He's one of if not the only sales rep who monitors their account here on TW. He's handled more than a few orders for me and hasn't let me down yet.

No experience in a RTT, but have slept in a ground-style tent several times in temps that low without a heater and did ok. 0 degree bag with a couple of decent blankets, some nice long-johns, double socks and a couple of hand/feet warmers and you would be ok, but having the heater... shiiiiiii you’ll be sleeping like a king. You’ll be good! Better to have more then less. Can always push some stuff to the side if you get too warm.

Sock hack: pull them off your toes an inch or two. Never have cold toes again.

also more clothing isn’t necessarily better when it comes to sleeping bags. I find that if I go socks, shorts or underwear, long sleeve shirt and a beany I’ve been good well below freezing (I have a 20f and a -5f bag depending on conditions). If it’s still not enough I use a blanket over my sleeping bag before I add cloths inside the sleeping bag.

    My two cents.

Have fun! Skiing should be great if you’re into it.

I agree, first time using the heater so I have no Idea how good it will do maintaining temp but I have a feeling it’ll be more than enough for the night. definitely going to throw some extra blankets just in case.

Haha nice idea with the socks Ill give it a try. Im not bringing it but I have a mummy bag that dam near dehydrated me last time I used it. Woke up in a “Me-swamp” :bananadead:

Its going to be a great weekend forsure. Im headed to board heavenly tomorrow then going to camp at Kirkwood sunday. My friend is predicting road closures getting in there so we want to be there before they do!
