Ironically, OP is bashing the dealer for using 75/90 gear oil (which they mostly all do), when the Toyota manual says 75/85 (which most dealers don’t even stock), while completely ignoring the requirements in the same manual to cycle the 4WD system.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Sounds like incompetence on both sides, IMHO.

How about the dealer adding LSD additive to a differential without a LSD?

Not using all the 4x4 modes won’t cause the rear differential lock to decide to turn itself on and get stuck on or stuck indicating on due to an electrical problem.

Maybe I accept your apology, maybe I don't, who knows. What I do know is I exercise my 4wd as recommended...because I spent a good chunk of change on a machine, I should know how to use it.

I'd be bringing all this up to Toyota corporate, because it doesn't sound like their dealer knows wtf is going on.

It's not that big of a deal. They could put 85W-140 in there and it would be fine.

The point is thats not whats recommended in the manual or what the truck came with from the factory. Also LSD lube in a non LSD diff? Uhm... id have some questions for corporate.

If they used a synthetic gear oil then it has the additives that an LSD. This is literally not a problem.

The work order sayd "LSD lube" right above the 75/90 gear lube, so that doesnt sound like they just used synthetic oil. My understanding is that LSD additives have a friction modifier in them while ok to use on a non lsd, causes the gear oil to oxidize much quicker and the lifespan of the oil will be shorter and require changing sooner than indicated in the owners manual.
