Bilstein 6112

Has anyone ran both 5/6 set up AND the 5/5 with spacer to see if it actually makes any difference?

 

I think that this is where the debate mostly is. Because if they get one or the other they usually stick with it.

 

I personally went with 3/2 because that's how Bilstein designed them.

 

Just ordered my 6112/5160 set up today
I went for 5/5 with a spacer.

So how are you guys mounting the reservoir for the 5160s?

 

I think it comes with a way to mount it to the frame

I'm at 6/5 no spacers with my 6112's. I LOVE my ride front to back, on road and off road. They were tested and designed that way lol. If you have not tried 6/5, then you are assuming how it rides/handles.

Got my aal installed. Still riding great. Really liking this setup. Measured from hub to the flair is 23.5" front and 24" rear.

 

Installed 6112/5160 set at 4/5 with Wheelers 3 leaf AAL. Some issue with the adda leaf install. The directions did not indicate to remove the factory bracket and the pin stripped very easy.

The ride is great, about what I expected based on everyones comments. A bit firmer at slower speeds over small bumps but large bumps at speed are swallowed up and it feels 100x more stable than stock suspension. Nose dive is reduced and body roll is a little reduced. I have not been on the highway yet but hit some snow trails this morning and it was great never once had the cringe feeling of going too fast over rough stuff. However now I'm driving a lot faster than I probably should just to hit big bumps.

It does now have a very strange vibration around 40 mph when I let off the gas. Like a half second vibration every 2 seconds if that makes sense. Can feel it through the pedals, but it's not major.

The vibration you feel is likely the driver front axle needle bearing. Almost all lifted Tacomas need an ECGS bushing to replace the needle bearing.

The way you verify is while driving straight around 40mph put the truck in 4wd hi. You can do this on the street as long as you keep it straight, no turns. The vibrations will instantly go away when you put it in 4wd hi. If not, then you have driveline vibrations (driveshaft).

 

I am about 95% sure that is driveline vibration from the way that you have been talking about the vibs at 40mph. It could be the needle bearing (which I highly suggest you replace anyway with a ecgs bushing) but most short beds are going to get some vibes because of the aggressive driveline angle. A carrier bearing drop and axle shims might be needed.

 

I have mine at 5/6 and it's softer with more cushion than my stock Limited suspension had. It does not ride stiff at all like the stock setup did.

 

Thankfully for me I only needed the ECGS bushing. Zero bad vibrations now. I'm DCLB though.
