I searched “best ham radio brand” for shits and giggles. Guess I need to buy a baofeng radio.83EB1D33-648A-4816-BEAF-8381B5E70BA8.jpg

Read the specs very carefully. You may see features you will never use or ones you need to research. I find people like the brand they first figured out so download the manual and see how well it reads. Research how you will program the rig. There are many options and some are hard to learn but very powerful. Make sure the digital service supported is common in your area. Buy as much radio as you need and can afford, while they don’t really go obsolete quickly you will get more sophisticated in your use.

I don’t look at my head when I use mine, either because I use the mic controls or know the VRO by heart. This allowed me to mount mine very cleanly. Follow @m603holden advice about antennas.
I don’t have experience with either of those two rigs. I do own an iCom and am very happy with it.

Big rabbit, big. While this question was not in the study guide, you must tell the X(YL) this is all for safety.

What antenna mount did you use on the rack? How did you route the cable in the cabin?

Both my vhf/uhf and hf are lip mount. Just ran the coax in through the door.

Eventually they'll come through the cab vent and the radios will be tucked behind the back seat

I wasn't even aware of the rear cab vents... Nice, I'll look into it. Thanks!

I ran my coax's through the black grommets/plugs and not through the vents. They are perfect and all you need to do is poke a hole through them to push the coax through. My coax was bare and didn't have any connectors on them. It would still be possible to run a finished coax through the plug.

Did you seal it up with rtv or such? Or is there a lip there you can zip tie around.

Why would you need to seal it? If there a good seal between the coax and a rubber grommet there’s no need. It’s sealed.

Put a loop on the coax. Works well.
