battery light on

Greetings !
Need help.
Battery and ABS light on.
Replaced battery and alternator to new oem alternator and still no charge.
Any advise?

check the exciter wire. check your grounds.

 

check the 7.5 A ALT-S fuse and the 15 Gauge fuse. They could be located in either the underhood or D/S knee fuse panel.

 

Sorry for the noob question, you know off hand which wire that is? Or are you more saying look up which wire is the exciter wire on your model and check it?
Grounds are definite suspect with his symptoms.
You seem to have a lot of good info man. Did I catch you yesterday saying you have a background in a shop or currently work in a garage or something like that? Glad you hang around, good experienced hands aren't the easiest to come by around here

 

Check both your 120a ALT & 100a? (can't recall what amperage) ABS screw in place fuse in the engine compartment

 

I haven't looked at a wiring diagram for the tacoma- my background is european and vintage repair, more than 2 decades worth. The only truck I'll work on is my own. The exciter wire is the +12 circuit from the battery through the ignition switch to the alternator- without that input the alternator won't output. That wire should be the small red wire in the plug harness. The 7.5a fuse is theoretically good because he said the charge light is on. The ABS I'm treating as a concurrent but unrelated sympton right now. Although really bad grounds can cause all of it.

The Maxi-fuses are a good check too, I keep forgetting about those. And, after looking at the wiring diagrams the ABS maxifuse and the Alternator maxifuse are right next to eachother. Nice call 02hilux. I'll second that. Check the Fusible Link Box for faults.

 

Yeah those are good points on the fuse and light. And on our tacos you are exactly right on the grounds, the engine bay grounds are a common cause of weird crap acting up

 

Troubling shooting first is a good idea .

Now having new parts added in more problems might have been created .

Battery terminals dirty or broken.

Live in the liquid brine belt I have had it corrode the plug on the alternator .

That stuff gets in every where worse the squirrels

Along with the other ideas mentioned
