I did get my new F-150 Saturday. It's a 2019, my local dealer found it in Pennsylvania, and brought it here. I got advantage of Ford's Black Friday deals on leftover 2019 models. With the Ford
trade in bonus, I did get $15,000 for my Tacoma. It's White, reg cab, short bed, 4x4, 2.7 Ecoboost, 3.73 axles with rear E-locker. Does have factory install class IV hitch, and wiring, rear window
privacy tint, and defogger. Everything else base model "XL" standard package. No power group, and black vinyl on the floor board. It drive good, rides good, great power train. Excellent response
from the Ecoboost, and the 10 cog auto. I haven't driven a 10 spd since the fuel dealer I drove a tanker for went out of business 11 years ago, of course that one was a manual with a hi-lo range.
The 10R80 trans is mostly smooth in normal mode, in sport or tow/haul, it's a bit more spirited, and shifts firmly without retarding the throttle. It will fumble a bit at times under just the right
conditions, but that seems to be a thing with all these new multi speed electronic auto transmissions. Most testers have noted this in nearly all makes and models. It's certainly not bad, and
the turbo V6 has plenty of torque. I just hope it lasts for a long time, and gives no problems. The only thing I don't like is the headlights, they are weak, like almost all with halogen lamps.
The iihs rates nearly all halogen headlamps as poor, with most pickups being the worst. Only the Honda Ridgeline was rated good, and it has LED lamps. Also, why do they keep putting bigger, and
bigger tires on pickups? The stock tires on F-150 4x4 are 265-70-R17 (31.5x10.5x17).

I hope I have that same experience. It does have plenty of power. I hope I don't get a ticket before I get used to it. It's so quiet I don't realize I'm going over the limit.

Those are some insane prices, but they were much more upscale trucks than mine to begin with. Interestingly, from what I've read, the F-150 is about equal with Toyota in residual value now.
Most other big 3 vehicles, not so much...

 

Congrats, I'd say that Ford will be a great truck, reg. cab, short bed, 4X4, without the extra bells & whistles. It sounds like something that may suit me. I haven't been in a F-150 for yrs. how much bigger is it than the Taco? I know the full size trucks keep gradually getting smaller while the small ones keep gradually getting bigger. A little confused about 1 thing, & kind'f being nosey, did you get the $15K for your Taco, or did you get $15K off for a trade in? Just wondering. & hope the Ford is all you're hope for, should be easy to install better headlights.

 

I could have sold my Tacoma directly to another dealer who offered me $15,000 cash. However, Ford had those Black Friday deals on 2019's, and offered a $2000 trade in bonus if you traded a
in a vehicle less than a certain age (can't remember the age limit). Wouldn't have gotten the bonus without trading it on the Ford. Ford dealer didn't want to give me but $12,000 for Tacoma,
but when I told them another dealer offered $15,000 cash, they said if that would make the deal, they give me $13,000, and with the $2000 Ford cash, that equaled the $15,000 and it was less
hassle to do it that way. So, I actually got $15,000 off for the trade in, but was the same thing money wise for me. I got prices from another area dealer but they were nearly $1800 higher for
an F-150 with the same equipment, so I took the best deal.

The F-150 is definitely taller than a Tacoma, which is good in some ways, higher, more comfortable seating position, and more head room, could wear a 10 gallon hat in this truck. The track, and
overall width is about +6" more than a Tacoma. A 3rd gen Tacoma in access cab has a sightly longer wheel base +5" if I remember right. Turing radius is the same as an AC 3rd gen, 40.5'. The weight
is almost a wash as well, 3rd gen Tacoma access cab 4x4, auto is within a 150lbs of the F-150. F-150 bed is bigger by a bit too. Ground clearance is rated the same, but I'm not sure both are measured
from the same point. The F-150 looks higher, and when viewed from the side, looks cleaner under the frame, not as much visible hang down around the main cross member near the transfer
case. I was parked near a 3rd gen Tacoma this afternoon, and I took notice of some of the differences. The F-150's bigger tires do add to it's overall height as well, I'll have to get a step stool to
reach the center of the windshield to be able to clean it. I can get up in the bed to clean the cab roof. F-150 engine bay is much more cluttered than a Tacoma with the 4 cyl. The V6 Tacoma looks
pretty full as well, but not as bad without all the turbo plumbing. Spark plugs, oil filter, etc., don't look too bad to get at, though. The 2.7 Ecoboost has a cartridge style oil filter similar to the
Tacoma 3.5 V6. F-150 rides a bit better on road, and I don't off road, so don't care about that part. I think the F-150 electric power steering drives a bit better on road too, but opinions vary on
that. The power train is the big difference, turbos, plus 10 gears is a night and day difference. If I start out uphill, just keep easing into the throttle until I hear the turbos start to spool, and just
hold throttle there, it will do the job, no need to hammer on it, or rev it high, just loads of torque, at quite low engine rpm's. I can't wait to go up on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Only other truck I
have driven with this kind of torque was diesel, of course that was turbo as well. I'll have to hand calculate when I fill up, but trip computer showing over 20 mpg for this tank so far.

You would like the room, and power of an F-150, and a basic truck like I got isn't much more than a similarly equipped new Tacoma. The price of all these smaller, less powerful trucks is ridiculous, no matter what make...

 

Really interesting. I may see if I can find a dealer that may have something like you've found. I know most in my area don't seem have the reg. cab short beds. Unlike you, no way I could buy one without seeing & driving it first. This is all Toyota's fault, If they had only offered the reg. cab Taco with the V6, I would be perfectly happy, but I just can't get comfortable driving this thing. The only thing I've ever driven, with as little power as my Taco, was a 1984 Nissan 4X4. Bought it new & thought it would be OK, but after appx. 3 months, it had to go. Just couldn't stand it. Now I'm in the same shape again. Congrats again.

 

I did drive an F-150. True, it wasn't the exact truck I bought, but was same engine, steering, 4x4, etc. I wouldn't have bought without a test drive either. When they don't have what you want on
the lot, you just have to drive something reasonably close. That's happened a lot with me, what's on dealers lot's isn't usually what I'm looking for. They have mostly the high end double cabs.

Here is my previous (sold) 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport Dbl cab 6MT - I am in Canada so everything is in Canadian $$ and kilometres.

Bought for $40,000 CDN new in November 2010. Added $1800 CDN in upgrades (approx $31,350 USD all in new 2010) Put on 156,000 kms (96,993 miles over 8 1/2 years) (was still on original brakes) Cost me oil changes-services- new set of tires and a couple of windshields. No accidents. Kept up interior and exterior appearances.

Sold Aug 2019 for $24,400 CDN or $18,340 USD (58.5% of original purchase price including upgrades sold with the truck 8 1/2 years later )
