I also have this rattling sometimes when accelerating uphill with full throttle. The noise sounds like it’s coming from down by my feet. Pushing the clutch pedal in slightly seems to stop it. I think it’s a rattle from the clutch spring mechanism. Or are some of you experiencing this rattle with automatic transmissions?

It could be the exhaust rattling, although I have removed the antitheft hoop over the drivers side rear cat.

I experience this in both winter and summer, even when the temps are very cold here in Colorado. I am at about 7000 foot elevation. I’m using 88 and 91 octane. I don’t think it’s detonation, because the pinging noise sounds absolutely horrific and I think the engine would’ve grenaded by now if it was detonation...

I have a 2.7L auto. It's definitely not clutch related as I don't have one. I agree that it's not detonation because it does it constantly if the amb temp is above 65 which the motor would have exploded by now. I feel no vibrations or hesitations whatsoever, just hear the noise.

Just to add to this I filled up with 93 today from a basically empty tanks. Gave it 50 miles or so and it still makes the noise.

It makes me feel worried because the temperatures in my area is below 60F lately (mid Tennessee) and maybe is also the reason I don’t get the noise.

Did you notice any difference if your a/c is on or off?

It does it regardless of a/c on/off, speed, gear, incline. It doesn't matter. It starts as soon as I start to accelerate and stops as soon as I let off. I can haul ass down a bumpy dirt road and it wont make the noise if I am not on the gas.

For me it seems to only do it in the lower gears (1 to 3; 6 speed manual) and under high load (full throttle, mid RPMs, especially up an incline).

It is unseasonably warm today and the rattle is back with a vengeance. The weird thing is the rattle does not change with speed or RPM. It stays consistent even though it only happens when accelerating. I read other posts about the headliner making noise where it meets the windshield and the cover for the TSS camera. I can press on both of them and they do not stop it. It it extremely hard to pinpoint as it sounds like it's behind the radio or in the AC vents.

Any updates on this? Not sure if it’s the same noise, and I have a 2nd gen. very recently I began hearing what sounds to me like a rattling noise, or two pieces of very thin metal rubbing against each other. I’ve been reading that it could be the gas, but what’s odd to me is that I just began using chevron over arco. So could it be that chevron is the cause? I thought chevron was considered “good” gas.

I’m not sure if you are asking me but I was finally able to resolve my issue this week. I removed the entire dash and it turned out to be some loose screws they hold the A/C ducts to the underside of the dash. I think I had 3 or 4 that had to be tightened.

I was asking just in general, but I guess I just gotta check everything out. Pretty sure mine is coming from under the cab rather than from the engine.

Any update on this? I have the same thing. Get this I’m the one lucky bastard that Toyota says “we will replace you’re whole tranny for free at 30k miles” but I have aftermarket clutch and flywheel and dont want them to know so I said don’t do it.

but are you still dealing with this issue ?

Mine rattles for a second. Around 3500rpm when accelerating. Sometimes at 1200 when I goose the throttle. I’m starting to think it’s the direct injection system. My 10th gen civic would do that sometimes when I suddenly accelerate

I have been experiencing rattling too. I found a couple of plastic panels in the wheel well, were loose. Lost plastic tabs that hold them in place were gone. They would flap in the wind while driving causing a rattle.

Noise may be coming from behind glovebox. Hard wire harness cover maybe contacting glovebox after face

North7, you're right. The wiring harness was loose and also found some plastic snaps for the engine bay were missing. My radio wiring was loose. I took removed the radio, used tie straps and after drove around, finally no more rattling. Crossing my fingers.

Does the rattle sound metallic and only during acceleration? It almost sounds like a heat shield rattle, even though they are all snug.

It was my catalytic convertors. I ended up replacing both the left and right exhaust manifolds that had convertors on them. And the right side too. The heat shields were fine. Now I'm dealing with water sloshing around and found my ac drain was clogged and I need to somehow clean my evaporator. My friend who is an AC contractor suggested that I use my garden sprayer and through the drain keep shooting evap cleaner and then shop vac out the junk. Keep doing that until it's clean.
