Wow that fits perfectly

 

Wanted to share my project for this weekend to fix hauling sheet goods like plywood or drywall. As y’all know 4x8’ sheets fit like ass between the wheel wells so here’s a fix I saw somewhere here on TW. Used 2x8”s ripped down to about 7” in the bed slots and 1/4” galvanized chain and shackles to hold the tailgate at the right height to support the rest of the sheet.

When inserting the chain in the latches, make sure to press in until you hear two clicks that way it’s fully seated and locked. To release, simply pull the tailgate handle. The soft open feature still works from this angle.

Nine chain links plus the shackle on each side seemed to be the perfect length for me but the tailgate height can be fine tuned by twisting the chains up some. Here’s a 2x4” resting level on all three supports.


On my way to go buy more plywood:

 

Brilliant. You might be able to use a latching S Hook, or some snap hooks too to make it quick disconnect. I’m going to experiment with looping a long proofcoil back on itself such that I can simply double duty my logging chain. Again, brilliant idea providing the third support.

It’s a temporary device the dealer gave me before I get around to installing a tailgate actuator.

 

I thought about using carabiners or something similar but the galvanized shackles matched the chain and look cool imo plus they unscrew in a couple seconds

 

Awesome idea. You could use a ratchet strap between two shackles to get that tailgate height perfect.

Installed the factory bed divider. Really liking this thing. If you mount the brackets like I have in the pics below and have a locking tailgate, it can't be removed/stolen. Will work this way until my DB cover comes in.

 

That’s factory? I’ve never seen that. About how much are they?

 

Got it on a black Friday deal for $180 shipped.

 

Also bought some brackets at Homedepot for $1 each (total of $8) and used them to mount some maxtrax I bought recently to the victory 4x4 roof rack. Definitely a cheaper (and still very sturdy) option over buying rack mounting plates from $50-$100 each.

This is the exact item I bought. I stacked 2 of them per corner to add a little more rigidity. The bigger holes in the middle are the perfect size for the maxtrax mounts. The smaller holes had to be drilled out a bit to accommodate the t-slot bolts.

I was going to paint them, but they are galvanized.

The T bolts came from MaxTrax?

 

The mounting hardware that's on the brackets is a maxtrax product.

The @victory4x4 roof rack uses 80/20 t-slot aluminum rails (I believe) for the cross sections. They provide a few mounting bolts, but I purchased this pack of bolts and T nuts to mount the plates from HD. I'll be using them to mount other things to the rack as well. Only issue is, they are a little long and will bottom out in the channel of the rail. Had to add washers (rubber in my case) to back them off a bit.
