HID's for Low or High beam?

i bought some after market lights that have two H1 bulbs for high and low beam. i have been wanting to get some HID's but i dont really know much about them. i see that most people run them for their low beams. i was wondering if you can run them in your high beams. i want to have the HID's for the high beams so that way when it snows hard or there is bad fog i can still switch to low beams and be able to see. is the set up i want possible or common?

wait, you drive around w/ your high beams on and not your lows? your suppose to drive w/ low beams

 

if your not supposed to drive with your high beams on, then what are they for? obviously you dont blind people with your highs. you switch to lows for on coming traffic.

 

why do you switch to low for oncoming traffic?

 

HID's are supposed to be in your low beams. in our trucks our bulb does both. and the HID bulb wires to the low beam. if you have separate slots for low and high you can put them in both but its a waste to put them in the high since we drive with our low beams. i only use my high beams to flash slow drivers or people who cut me off. but its not good to flash HID's, they WILL die out very quick if you keep doing it.

 

I did a retro fit and installed FX projectors. These,, have a shield that is been raised for Highs. The intensity does not change. There for, theoreticaly, the life of the bulb and (or) ballast should not be afected by frequent high-low changes.

 

you only have one bulb. and its H4 size. there is a metal sheild that covers the bulb. for LOW beam the bulb is behind the shield. for HIGH beam the bulb rises up and shines over the top of the shield.

Thank you for the info. I knew about the bulb- I did the retro fit twice. I was reffering to his remark- quote-your hid will die quick if you flash. In some Hid's the flushing is not that detrimental.

i know the stock headlights only have one bulb but i dont have the stock ones anymore. i have two seperate bulbs. one for high and one for low. i guess i didnt realize evryone drove with their low beams on. i drive with my highs on so i can see farther down the road.
