24 degrees and we had 13 people for today’s group ride. Conditions where fast and awesome because the ground was frozen!

I have always wanted to ride those trails, but I usually ride in Santa Cruz when I am up in the area.

Well, I live in Santa Cruz so the trails are always better anywhere but at home. Just kidding, but our trails generally take longer to dry out and some of the more popular trails don’t really drain well. So in winter and especially with the rain we’ve had the last ten days or so, Ft Ord with its sand is the place to go.

Two of my riding friends have the hitch mount. I could take pictures, but I probably won’t see them till next weekend.

My Wife , daughter and I did a dirt road Subaru trip. I had my Kuat on the back and didn’t break it, and it was solid in the bumpy stuff.

The Subaru had 15” Sparcas with KO2s. Is did sick!

Thanks. Im going to give them a call today. I am guessing they only sell direct.
I was looking at a couple of the racks at REI, Yakima, Thule, etc. For the price, I will just get the 1up. All aluminum.
My truck isnt a DD. So, the rack would stay on the bars all the time, and it looks like 2 bolts to un-do it, IF I needed the full bars.
Adding a basket to the rack this week, for a little more room for a road trip, so, I need to move my mounts outboard a few inches anyway. Biggest issue I run into with removing the wheel, its a place to put it when everything is full....

Love the baru! I'd like to put a similar tire/wheel setup on my wife's '16 Crosstrek, but since its her daily I don't want to degrade the on-road comfort in any way with an AT tire. The newer crosstrek body lines and headlights are so nice. I still really like ours, but I am a little envious

You are right about 1up being direct only. Their customer service is equal to their product, top notch. I think you can covert the roof rack tray into a hitch rack and vice versa. If there are any specific pictures or details you would like, send me a PM. I have a black double SD hitch rack.

Honestly, curious about the "carraige" bolt size.
They may not even be able to get me one in time.
Plus, not sure if it is worth dragging one of the bikes down there...
Id hate to drag it down, and not get to use it, and I would really hate to NOT drag it down, and have plenty of time to use it....

I'd try to get that sort of data straight from the source. Not to say that anyone would intentionally provide misinformation.

Well if 1up can't get you something in time, you could at least use your current setup right? That is if you decide to take a bike. If its out of the way and you are comfortable that it won't be a target for theft or vandalism, take it.

I would just have an issue loading the front wheel for the trip. Id leave the lock on it during the day(regardless of the rack), and bring it into the room at night.
Once I get where I am going, no issues.

Perfect, which set-up did you use to attach it? Just the regular carraige bolt?

Does the bike being up that high cause any issues? Do you notice it(extra wind/drag/).
Wouldn't typically be worried about that, bit, a 5k mile road trip.....

    Thanks

I have Motown Bed Bars which uses a 80/20 aluminum crossbars that are 1.5" in diameter. I ordered the 1up with the 2" bolts. No wind issues and really no extra drag. These bike racks are solid. For a 5K trip, i would check the bolts to make sure they are tight on a regular basis, but have had no issues at all. Went this route as I wanted access to the tailgate, backup camera, and parking sensors, while also installing over my tonneau cover and it has not let me down.

I can't wait for my bed bars to show up, ordered them a month or 2 ago. Did you paint your cross bars black or order new 80/20? I know it shows them coming as silver

ok, check it out, here's the deal with the 1up roof vs. hitch racks: in order to swap one or two of the trays to your bed bars, you'll have to order very specific options.

    1. You cannot just order the hitch rack, remove the tray(s), and install them on your bed bars. Tthe hitch rack trays are slightly different than the roof rack trays. The hitch trays are two-piece, while the roof rack trays are one piece (see the picture below)

    2. Roof trays can by added to a hitch racks, but the other way around doesn't work -- hitch trays cannot be used on bed bars (because of #1 above)

    3. The hitch racks require a kit that is sold separately in order to add roof rack trays.

If this doesn't make enough sense, let me know and I'll try to clarify.

(On another note, I use my roof tray on Mobtown Bed Bars with the "flush mount" setup, not the 2" bolts. The flush-mount setup installs directly IN the slots on the 80/20 bars instead of wrapping around them)

Here you can see my single-tray hitch rack with one (1) added roof tray. Please note the difference in the two trays (one piece versus two-piece):
