One thing I do not like about wineries sis that the menu is generally sparse and the few choices they do have are obscenely overpriced. This place also is charging $6 for a bottle of beer and $7 for a draft!

A little over five months ago we had put our 1-year old Corgi/Labrador mix, Mandy, to sleep. She was born with Congenital Renal Dysplasia. We only had her for about ten months. Her kidneys were failing and there wasn’t much else we could do for her.

I am currently watchingThe Fox and the Hound, and I started crying when I saw the part where Tod’s owner drops him off at the game preserve to keep him safe.

    I really miss my dog!

My last dog, a purebred Black Lab named Molly, lived be 15. She was like 100 in dog years.

Mandy was the equivalent of a 6-year old!

This issue has long since been corrected at cost to me, but I was wondering...?

Do brake drums/dust shields ever needs to be replaced? A lot of people on here know my truck had some issues with a blown axle seal. Originally, the blown axle seal went unchecked for so long that the rear brakes had to be replaced. Because the brakes had 22K miles on them, the uncontaminated left rear brake also had to be replaced. When I got the truck back, I did not realize until a day or two later that my brake drums were new.

I was told by some stealership twatwaffle that the drums to eventually wear out. What I'm pissed about is that they replaced my original (from 2009) coated black drums that had minimal rust with these untreated steel drums that rusted in under a month. I'm especially pissed that they replaced the right drum. I was told that the rear brakes would have to replaced; I've always been under the impression that the outer part of a drum brake is good for the life of the vehicle.

I bought some painted/treated aftermarket drums for $85 apiece and my mechanic (not the stealership) installed them.

I have learned my lesson and will no longer be taking my truck to Thompson Toyota in Doylestown for anything but recall stuff, and my mechanic will be doing all work on my truck that I can't do myself. If the bureaucrats at PennDOT didn't require a stupid annual emissions test and safety inspection, I probably wouldn't be bringing my truck to a mechanic at all!

Thompson provides excellent customer service and has a very nice facility, but they are located in a wealthy zip code where people value convenience above all else, have more dollars than sense, and don't take the time to read the fine print. They take full advantage of this, and end up alienating people like me in the process. By comparison, I found out that Checkered Flag Toyota in Virginia Beach would have charged about $300 less to replace the evaporator core in my truck than Thompson did (Thompson charged like $400 for the actual part, whereas Checkered Flag charged just $95).

My only question is the title; Can brake drums (not the linings, shoes, and other mechanical parts) last the life of the vehicle? Should I have demanded my original drums back from the dealer?

If I were President of the United States, I'd require all dealerships charging over a certain amount of money for services to fly the Jolly Roger on their flag poles, because what are they but modern-day pirates?

Okay, so I guess the only thing I've gotta be pissed about is that the stealership used untreated steel drums?

I had the same problem. Had to paint them a few months later because the rust was so ugly

I will paint these drums and save them for later...

So now "stainless steel" drums are the norm? My kitchen has stainless steel appliances. I don't think brakes should have the same finish.

They are not lifetime parts - but I can say that I've owned many drum brake cars and never had to replace the drums. It must take a lot of mileage to reach that point.

So the stealership simply went on a part replacement frenzy?

The aftermarket units are definitely a little less, glad it's up and running again.
