I need a nice steel or aluminum rear bumper for my lifted '09. I don't offroad much but I back into shit all the time (yeah I know there's a camera) and the stock bumper, as you know, is super thin. Nothing fancy, no D rings or winch area and little modification needed, just a stout replacement for factory. Brands, material, experiences?

I wanted a steel bumper too but I like having the TSS part of my Pro. Therefore, I got a Tyger Hitch Armor. Once a bumper comes out that works with TSS then I’ll grab one.

If you only have the camera and back-up sensor then you have a lot of options.

I am not a fan of this device as "armor" for your rear bumper. Because of the hitch geometry, any significant impact will transfer all the force as a bending moment to the hitch mounting locations on the weak frame, resulting in a bent frame. An off-center hit will bend the hitch. Suggest you look for a heavy duty bumper that bolts directly to the frame. This thing is useful as a step.

Amen and agree. When they come out with one that works with TSS I’ll the first in line to get one.

Since you know what the problem is, don't install a bumper that'll cause more damage to someone else's vehicle when you back into it. Instead of backing up by feel, maybe try to use your mirrors and backup camera a bit more.

I don't back into others, not THAT careless. I don't have TSS either, just the camera. Also not interested in the hitch step option, just looking for a stout replacement that bolts directly to frame. Keep the ideas coming.

Hahahaha Muddinfun! When I first read that, I thought your post was the OP saying what he has backed into! I got rear ended, well, maybe I should say, my Taco was rear ended and I had a hitch. The receiver no longer sat correctly and was loose, but of course the other person's insurance company (Progressive) said I didn't have any damage. Had to fight for a new hitch through my insurance company. I wish I didn't have the hitch in place, I would have replaced it with that $400 Ebay deal.

Not sure why you would back into things if you have a camera. Installing aftermarket front and rear cameras on my '05 DCLB was a lifesaver for me. It saves my wife or I from having to get out to check. Having an aftermarket bumper won't make you park better, likely more reckless.

I’d say this is the solution that you’re looking for. Cheap, stout steel. Reviews look pretty good, and it appears to work with a factory hitch.
