Didn't read much to catch what you guys are talking about but to say this is blasphemy

Bullet weight makes a huge difference, especially if you use too heavy of a projectile on a barrel that has a fast twist, and vice versa with a slow twist but light projectile.

Let's not even get into how far from the lands the ogive on the given round is; some rounds are tolerant to jump and others not at all.

This would cause someone like me to load within tenths of an inch to gain the most consistent shooting as one could get.

 

The bigger issue with this is that .223 barrels found on bolt guns generally have much slower twists to handle the bullet weight (62gr or more) of a 5.56. I believe a small base .223 sizer die takes care of the chambering issue.

 

The top one looks like a .308 being formed and going into the stages of being converted to a 6.5 casing or smaller.

 

I was going for reliability and safety. Not accuracy lol

 

30-06 to 7.7. Thats where the lines on the neck came from.

 

If you're not going to be accurate, you may as well leave the gun at home and just toss your bullets by hand.

 

That's not what my example was aiming for lol.

Read up a few posts. I shoot .223 through my 5.56's all the time.

That's why you don't buy reloads, it's why you don't accept ammunition from someone you completely trust, and even then you should inspect it because it never hurts to be safe.

If it's absolutely questionable at all, take it apart, dump the powder into your plants' soil, and discard the remaining parts.

It'd help to strike the primer with a hammer too

I do too. I dont think i own any 5.56. All .223

 

.223 is typically loaded lighter than 5.56

So .223 out of a 5.56 barrel is ok.

5.56 is loaded 'hotter' for more FPS which means higher pressure, that a .223 barrel may not be able to consistently handle.

 

Majority of AR's are .223 wylde

 

I only have .22 and 12 ga.
