I remember when my dad traded his 1999 Harley FXDX for a new 2009 Road King. He was amazed by the fact that it had ABS. Pretty soon bikes will have backup cameras!

Most of the stations in PA are self-serve, but there is a Shell station on Route 611 in Doylestown that kinda fell by the wayside for a couple of years. You could still pump your own gas, but they would let representatives from some cleaner company peddle their FW1 waterless shine, and these guys would actually walk up to your vehicle while you were pumping gas and start demonstrating it on your vehicle without asking! Not as bad, but still pretty annoying, were the window washers who appeared out of nowhere and started using the squeegee on your windows without asking (My guess is that these twatwaffles wanted a tip).

Was just in SW Oregon and there was a service attendant at every gas station I came to. I still had to get out and unlock the gas cap for them though.

One of them saw me going through my cash and washed my windshield for me, even though I just washed it earlier that day.. He said, 'Well it's better than it was!' and I....agreed. I guess being out of state they expect more tips from people.

 

Cultural stratification?

 

I hate to disagree, but it is keeping jobs!, Self serve pumps don't pay Social Security taxes.

 

Many years ago my buddy couldn't drive without being full of road rage, screaming, flipping off people, thinking it was his job to punish wrongdoers. He kept a big chunk of pipe under his seat for when actions were going to cause things to escalate. One day he gets called on by a car full of idiots, the pipe flew out of his hand and he got pounded.

 

The Reason Oregon and New Jersey do it, is to keep jobs, Self Serv pays state and federal payroll taxes, where self serv does not pay payroll taxes.
