So I've been reading up a lot here on installing cruise control on my '05 base model prerunner. I figured out it's prewired, and installed a control switch onto the steering wheel. The on/off button works and lights up the cruise light on the dash, but it doesn't hold speed.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you might have to wait for the computer to do it's checks every so often for it to work, but I've got over 100 miles so far and I also might be imagining that I even read that since I can't find it again.

Then I saw on some other threads that a few people here had their truck mostly prewired, but without the clutch switch. Except a quick look revealed I do have one.

My next best guess is going into the ECM and programming it to recognize the switch or whatever, but the question is before I go spend a bunch of money on something I'll probably just use once, is there anything I might be missing?

I seriously doubt what you saw under the dash is the clutch switch. Everybody that installed cruise in a manual trans Taco has had to install the clutch switch. Many people have had a bitch of a time finding the wire connector for it. It's usually taped up to the harness where you can't see it.

After taking another snort of Coke, uh, I mean Dr. Pepper, I realized that the clutch switch you saw was the clutch start switch. There is a separate switch needed for the cruise control.

So is this not a clutch switch? Because it looks like the pictures of them I've seen, and the white switch is pressed in by the clutch Or do I need something else?

Okay, that makes sense. I wasn't 100% sure if the same switch covered both functions, but it looks like I'll have to go buy a separate one for the cruise control. Thanks

Thanks for sticking around to the end and showing your appreciation. Many people join TW, post a big long post with questions and then just

Yeah I took a look at where it goes, and it's gonna be rough. But as an aircraft mechanic, I've been in some uncomfortable positions before.

Where is the upper left gray block so I can find 15? And where is middle bottom gray block so I can find 14?

I think 14 is located in the control panel in front of clutch. But is the other one for 15 located in the ECM behind the glove box?

I have a 2012 4cyl and looking at the Rostra instructions they say to go to 9 in the ECM behind glove box.
