I have a 2020 Cement Manual Access Cab ordered that I put a down payment on.
Its going to be another few weeks at least before it arrives, I can get a double cab tomorrow.

I'm a photographer and I want to travel around A LOT , and potentially live out of my truck for longer periods of time. I'm also thinking about getting a Dog that would travel with me.

From anyone else's experience which should I go for Access or Double Cab.

I'm worried I wont have enough space in the cab for all of my things and a dog,
I'm also worried about sacrificing the bed space as I plan to get a cap and put a mattress in the 6ft box.

Any suggestion or input from similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Welcome to TW... I say get a double cab long bed. However a manual transmission is not available in that configuration. A dclb will also accommodate adult passengers better.

Welcome to the forum from Eastern North Carolina !

Which is better for you? Access Cab or Double Cab? It depends on individual needs. I have owned Access Cabs for over 25 years and have not once regretted it.

If you have lots of passengers then a Double Cab would be more convenient but if you are confident you don't need to haul passengers frequently then a Access Cab should work just fine. The longer bed would allow you to sleep in more comfortably and if you install a camper shell, would provide adequate protection from weather.

Double cab long bed! I was in your same position and I went DCLB. I don’t regret it at all, the AT is fine!

    Stock for now.. maybe
I went for the access cab. I wanted a full sized bed as well. I have plenty of room behind seats for gear.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld!

I love my access cab! I built a platform across the back seats out of plywood, and it makes a nice area for my German Shepherd to ride comfortably. It also makes it really easy to toss gear or groceries back there.

    something similar to this.

DCLB for the win for me! I’m coming from a full size Silverado so it feels small to me. It’s Great! The double cab fills up quick with Mountain Bike gear so I’m glad I got the Double Cab. I plan to make a sleep system in the back too. ;)

Access cab if it's just you, a dog and gear.

The utility version is sans back seats, and you can stow a LOT of stuff back there that way. Keep your full bed and have a little shorter overall truck.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

I'm waiting for the access cab, I love them too much. My gear that wont fit in the back will go on the roof.

I called the dealer and it should be here by next Tuesday!! I cant wait!

Access cab for sure. I lived out of my truck for almost 4 months two summers ago. You have an ample amount of space behind the front seats where you can make a super nice platform for your pup and your gear. I took out the seats( two bolts each, 14mm if I recall) and built a plywood platform that gave me good storage underneath and storage on top. In the back I built a slide out drawer for my kitchen stuff/food and then rocked a yeti/7 gallon reliance jug on the driver's side rear quarter of the bed space. If getting a topper definitely opt for a high topper (leer 122, etc.) The ability to change clothes inside is a big perk.
