I've got my iPhone plugged into the desktop computer at work, and it will hold the charge while the phone is not in use. However, it charges very slowly. When I'm actually using the phone, it starts to go down a percentage every few minutes!

I also have a few USB cords in my stash that will keep the iPhone from dying quickly, but not charge it, no matter what the charging source is.

One of my coworkers has a motion-activated Santa outside their office. It was not here last week. The thing plays a Christmas tune every time someone walks by. I’ve been here maybe thirty minutes and yet another coworker has placed a piece of paper over it to keep it from going off every time someone walks past! I was about to go medieval on Santa...

    :laser: :fenforcer:

The coworker who owns the Santa does not seem to be in today, so we’ll see what happens when she comes in and discovers our handiwork.

Work computer is probably only usb 2.0, which is only 500mA. Most phones these days need 1500 to 2000 mA

Different phones need different chargers. I try to throw away all the chargers that are less than 3 Amps. I made the mistake of equipping my camper with 2.1 amp USB outlets - my iphone charges fairly quickly but my Samsung takes all night. :annoyed: One of these days I'll beef up the wiring and get a better charger there.

But to answer your question, most laptop ports dont have the amperage to handle your phone, as already stated.

Did you unlock your phone? I have to unlock both my iPhones (iPhone 8 & X) before they’ll charge on my work laptop.

Even Disney has a lame duck every once in a while, and in the late 1990s and early 2000s they had a ton of them in the form of direct-to-video sequels...

The Disney Renaissance was a period of time, beginning in 1989 with The Little Mermaid and ending in 1999 with Tarzan, when Disney released a slew of hit animated films. With the exception of three (Tarzan, 1997’s Hercules, and 1998’s Mulan), I owned all of the “Renaissance” movies on VHS. I also had Toy Story, Pinocchio, Mary Poppins, 101 Dalmatians (the original 1961 movie, which was my favorite movie back then; I got it in 1992 and managed to wear it out by 1994 because I watched it so much), and Fantasia. The only non-Disney movie I owned that I remember watching excessively was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Yes; I own a 2015 MacBook and a Toshiba laptop of roughly the same vintage; Macbook charges iPhones and iPods just fine; Toshiba won’t recognize my iPhone. The MacBook is a fully loaded $2,000 machine that I bought with inheritance money from my late Grandma. The Toshiba is just a base model PC that my dad bought for the sole purpose of sending emails and typing documents for work. He gave it to me when he bought a new one.

The list of lame duck direct-to-video Disney sequels includes*:

Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World (1998)
The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000)
Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Big Adventure (2001)
The Hunchback of Notre Dame II (2002)
    101 Dalmatians II: Patch’s London Adventure (2003)
    Mulan II (2005)

*These are just the ones I’ve seen.

I got Lady and the Tramp II as a present for my 12th birthday, and I actually liked it back then.

The biggest problem with many of the sequels is that an entire generation passed between the release of the original and the sequel. Lady and the Tramp was released in 1955, and 101 Dalmatians was released in 1961. Their sequels were released in 2001 and 2003, respectively. By this time, many of the original voice actors had either died or retired. Up until the late 1980s, at least one of Disney’s legendary Nine Old Men had a part in animating the movies. I believe Oliver and Company (1988) was the last movie one of those guys played a role in animating. The last surviving “Old Man” passed away in 2008.

Most of the sequels had decent animation in my opinion, but I’ve been told that Hunchback II had utterly shit animation compared to the 1996 original; Occasionally, the original voice actors will perform in the sequel, but the time between the original Hunchback and it’s sequel was just six years. Demi Moore and Kevin Kline came back to voice Esmerelda and Phoebus, respectively, and that probably saved the movie from
being a total failure. One of my Aspie friends, who is one of the biggest Disney fanatics I know, told me to avoid Hunchback II at all costs.

Almost fifty years passed between the original Lady and the Tramp and its sequel, however. Anyone who hadn’t passed away was either retired or didn’t feel like coming back. Over 40 years passed between the original 101 Dalmatians and it’s sequel, and almost all of the original voice actors were dead or old. Cruella De Vil was a shell of her former self in my opinion.

As I said before, the animation in many of these sequels was not horrible, but it lacked the charm and originality of the originals.

The biggest issue was the boring, predictable storylines. I can still enjoy Pinocchio and Beauty and the Beast at almost 31 years old, no matter how many times I watch them. I am not embarrassed to say that I still watch those movies. I just watched Mulan last night for the first time in probably 17 years and absolutely loved it.

The sequels, however, were created with two goals in mind...

    1. Keeping young kids entertained.
    2. Separating the parents of said kids from as much of their money as possible.
I still have a soft spot for even the newer Renaissance movies and look forward to introducing future generations of my family to them. The plot lines of the sequels appeal exclusively to young kids and become old news once those kids hit puberty. Ironically, I’m pretty sure the last time I watched a direct-to-video sequel was right before I hit puberty.

Also, the only reason I saw Little Mermaid II was because I wanted some new movies to watch in our then-new GMC conversion van on a road trip, and rented it on a whim.

Pinocchio was released in theaters almost fifty years before I was born, first released in VHS four years before I was born, and continues to be one of my favorite movies almost eighty years after it first debuted! If DVDs are still a thing in 2040, I will be buying my kids and/or grandkids their own 100th Anniversary copies!

My regularly took me to see Disney movies, and on a few occasions one of her girlfriends would join us and bring her son. The two movies I most remember seeing with my mom, a kid named Justin, and his mom were Aladdin and Snow White. I was only three or so when I saw Snow White. I saw Snow White in a theater, and this combined with the ahead-of-its time animation made me think it was a new movie. I did not realize the movie was 55 years old at the time. I did not realize that Snow White was made in 1937 until probably the early 2000s, when my Grandma (who was born in 1926) told me that she had gone to see the original theatrical release with her brother.

My parents always bought me the soundtrack tapes for the various Disney movies, and I most commonly listened to these in the car. After I was born, every vehicle we ever owned had a tape deck at least. The only brand new new vehicle my dad ever bought that did not have a bare minimum of a cassette player was his 1983 Celica GT; The Celica had A/C, cruise, and tilt, but only an AM/FM radio with no cassette. My mom’s 1985 Ford Escort did not have A/C (something she regretted not getting almost immediately), but she seems to think it did have a tape deck.

When we moved to Pennsylvania from California, my parents sold all of their cars and bought a new 1990 Camry LE V6 upon arriving in PA. My mom primarily drove the Camry and my dad bought a 1986 Mazda B2000 pickup to get around in.

The Camry had a cassette player; When my mom took me to see Aladdin in 1992, we met up with Justin and his mom. My mom had already bought me the Aladdin soundtrack, and I’m guessing the jewel case had been left in the center console...

Justin happened to look through the window of the Camry while we were in the parking lot, saw the tape, and went absolutely bonkers upon seeing it. He immediately started begging his mom for an Aladdin tape.

We had just moved to Virginia Beach when Mulan came out in late 1998. My mom took me to see it at a movie theater that was attached to a local mall. My mom was so
enthralled with the movie soundtrack that she took me to a music store in the mall and bought me the soundtrack on CD. Our 1996 Nissan Pathfinder had a CD player (not only the first vehicle my parents ever owned that came from the factory with CD player, but the first one they’d ever owned with a CD player period), so I got to listen to the Mulan soundtrack in six-speaker glory on the way home instead of waiting until I got home.

My musical tastes were forged in my dad’s 1993 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, which bought new and owned for three years, until May 1996 when he traded it for the Pathfinder.

My dad has always been good with his money. An in-car CD player was not cheap in 1993, so my dad used the JVC boombox he’d bought while on deployment in Japan to record his favorite CDs onto blank cassettes. He also had a good number of original cassettes (as in ones he’d bought in the store). The zip-up case full of cassettes was our entertainment on long drives.

When my dad bought the Pathfinder, only the means of music delivery changed. My dad no longer had to record CDs onto cassettes, and my dad got me hooked on everything from Bruce Springsteen to Johnny Horton during rides in that Pathfinder. He even played classical music, leading to my lifelong love of Mozart.

My dad was always very stingy with his money, especially when it came to buying the latest and greatest technology. Examples:

    • My dad had quite a few older vehicles with power windows over the years, but didn’t buy a new vehicle with power windows and locks for himself until 1993.
    • We did not get a car with a CD player until 1996.
    • We did not get a computer with Windows until 1996.
    • I didn’t get my first video game console until 1999.
    • We did not get high-speed internet until 2005 (though this was primarily because they were just starting to lay the infrastructure and no neighborhood we lived in had it until then).
    • We didn’t get wireless internet until 2006 or 2007.
    • We didn’t get a flat screen TV until 2007.
    • I didn’t learn to send text messages until 2007.
    • My dad got a Navy-issued Blackberry in 2005 or so, but my mom and dad didn’t get their first smartphones until 2008 or 2009 (maybe 2010).
    • I didn’t get my first smartphone until 2012.
    • I didn’t have functioning Bluetooth in my Tacoma until 2016.
