That really sucks when they pass during holidays like that. We lost our Angel this week last year and we put up Christmas two weeks early just for her because it was her favorite time of the year, but we couldn't get her to Christmas day. On the bright side, we did adopt a rescue ( Bella ) on that Christmas Eve and it's been a roller coaster since that is finally settling down.

For me, it's not that losing our furry family members gets easier because I'll still get choked up thinking about them, but you just adapt a little each day until the immediate pain goes away. Their void is never replaced or filled, but a new space is created for the new fur ball.

If you plan on adopting again, don't rush. Take your time and let the immediate pain subside some since you don't want to stress out your new family member like that right off the bat. As you search and make visits, let the kitty choose you.

That is exactly true. That guy picked me. Jinx loves my husband and Gizmo is her own girl. I’ve looked, and I found one little guy who picked me, but he’s caught up with the first applicant who can’t decide what she wants to do for neutering options because animal control is so far behind, so he sits in a kennel with his sister while they wait...when they could be home with us and our dog and other 2 a$$holes. It’s sad.

Time to jump in. We had three, there are now two. This is Squeak. She was the first cat I adopted. A customer brought her and a sibling in and the rest is history. Playful, kind soul, and beautiful. The picture was taken about three weeks before she passed of old age, 18 years. She was carrying one of her "babies".

Oh man what a fluff ball, sorry to hear she passed :( 18 years is a good long run though, sounds like she had a great home.

oh man, so much loss. It brings me back to February when we had to put our baby Lucy down because of FIP. I've never been so gutted before in my life.

On a happier note, these two warm my heart over and over and are getting goofier by the day.

This is Sampson (with the 'tude pose) and Sasha (about to nap at the fireplace. And trying to figure out why she can't get to the water fountain. Siblings about 9 years old.

All three watching the most fascinating leaf blow around the deck. Sasha, Sampson, Squeak, left to right. Still miss my little goofball (Squeak) after nine months.

Thanks. I was fortunate in the way she passed. She just got tired and had a little trouble walking. We made her comfortable on her favorite blanket. After about 10 hours I just held her in the recliner and petted her till she passed. That is all I wanted for her, a quiet painless exit as she brought nothing but joy to us. Truly a sweetheart.

And yes, we spoil them. I'd like to be a cat in our house!

My kitten is almost 10 months now, and he's bigger than my siamese, Kink. They grow up so fast.

I used to be able to sit in my recliner... should I turn on the heat and massage for them?

You're recliner will never be free again if you do! haha. When we lived in our last apartment, the heat didn't keep up well, so I used to put a heating pad on the couch for my cat; she still sits in that spot on the couch where I used to put the heating pad.

If you don't turn on the heat and massage for them, your cats have failed to train you properly. :p
