Is military personnel held to a different standard in the civilian world due to your training? Like would you get in more trouble for beating someones ass?

Nicholas Cage plays an Army Ranger who beats up a guy at a bar and kills him in the process while protecting his pregnant wife. The judge throws the book at him because he “abused his Army training” and sentences him to about a decade in prison. The movie centers around his release from prison, his desire to see the 8-year old daughter his wife was pregnant with when he went to prison, and how a bunch of convicts hijack that prison plane taking him home.

Steve Buscemi plays a convicted serial killer who’s so dangerous they keep in him in heavy-duty leather restraints that would look more at home in an S&M dungeon than in any modern prison, and they control him with stick things like you’d see the dog catcher using to control a dangerous dog. At one point, the convicts are listening to “Sweet Home Alabama”. Buscemi’s character, after the other inmates free him from the bondage gear, makes a funny remark about ironic it is that they are on an airplane listening to a band that lost
some members in a plane crash.

One of the convicts happens to be a former pilot and that’s how they successfully make off with the plane.

Depends on what you did in the military. The prosecutor will use it against you and highlight it in court for sure

In April 2002, my dad had a meeting onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln when it was docked at its then-home port of Bremerton, Washington. The meeting included a tour of the aircraft carrier beforehand. I’d never been on an aircraft carrier before, and my dad surprised by saying he was taking me along.

One thing I distinctly remember about that trip is that the A/C in our 2000 GMC Safari conversion van wasn’t working AGAIN, and it was unseasonably warm for Washington in April. I was in shorts and a T-shirt, and I got a good breeze by opening the sliding windows. I spent the fairly long drive (over an hour) playing video games on the van’s TV if I remember correctly.

My dad and the two or three colleagues who were with him were all in their dress uniforms, so they were less than happy with the A/C being inop. The Pathfinder’s A/C worked great, but we couldn’t all fit in that so we were stuck taking the van.

The tour of the Lincoln was great, and another thing I distinctly remember was seeing a thoroughly totaled Acura Integra on the flight deck. The car appeared to have hit a tree sideways and not only was completely totaled, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if it was a fatality as well.

I pointed at the Acura and asked my dad what it was doing there. My dad said that it had was there to remind sailors to drink responsibly while on leave, and had more than likely been donated by an insurance company or junkyard.
