There's probably too many variables to be able to calculate accurately no?

I think we can get some good estimates. A ballpark number is better than the alternative.

Sure and as I said earlier, I believe that mat has tested this and it works but there are 100 posts stating openions on the subject. I just get tired of hearing arguments with no proof or references.

As a side note, the skyactive engines look like they use 30 weight oil which would flow differently. I suspect that this favors the Tacoma because the lighter oil would flow faster.

Anyone have any idea what kind of oil pressure the 3rd gen makes?

    Edit

I found some math stuff online. As a rough start, does 22 seconds to flow 1 liter sound reasonable? This is for a 1/2' tube at a height of .5 meters, 20 weight oil at 100c.

The turbos have design specs for inlet and outlet size. The varying pressure in the return line depending on oil pan circumstances (various differing temperatures, engine speeds, angles of orientation, etc) isn't something that can easily be calculated. At least not without installing sensors in the pan and/or return line.

Since it's not inexpensive/quick to calculate these factors Mat and his team appear to be taking general industry knowledge into account when designing and testing the kit.

I'm comforted by the fact that Mat will be performing real world testing... at the same time I realize that the first dozen or so of us installing this kit are going to be part of the testing and learning process.

Again....we have proof on the skyactive. It's been done before. If that's not enough, it's being done on the 2gr-fks currently with Matt already. That's proof as crystal clear as it gets. If u need to quantify it, then be my guest, probably be beneficial to the fence sitters.

You do know that turbo seals don't actually blow right? They wear over time and then leak. The wear can be accelerated by out of balance shafts or coked up bearings. They are mechanical seals that actually seal via gas pressure and thermal expansion.

The twin turbo system is going to be more popular. There's no doubt about it.

whats the cost looking like on the TT kit? this is a super general rough ballpark question.... the supercharger kits are 6,500 correct? is it going to be in the same area or cheaper?

    Supercharger wasn't that much.

Not ready to post TT kit price yet. We had a price point on our mid mount. But that's scrapped.

    Yea,
Magnusons S/C is $6495 according to their website.
If that is with tune, or without, is unknown.
Harrops S/C price is unknown as of right now.

our TT kit will be significantly less than either of them.

Looks like Magnuson has updated their HP specs from 30% now to 50% increase in power. 415hp/395lbs seems fantastic to me. Hope this will create a targeted benchmark for all other SC setups.

Where do you see the 415/395 numbers from them?

All I see is "up to 50%" which can mean just about anything (a specific low/mid rpm for example.)

I think I would still go for a supercharger even if it costs more money, seems like a simpler setup that is less likely to have problems. When I had my Audi biturbo all I thought about was when the ko3s would fail and I had a 6k bill to have them swapped out.

Same thing with the 6.4L Powerstroke Turbo. The turbos put more load on the cooling system, heat up the engine bay, reduce the lifetime of engine oil, have complicated plumbing, more difficult to tune, add lag into the powerband.

its not everyones cup of tea but just my preference. I hope OVTune makes a kickass tune for the Harrop SC when it comes out as that will be the one Im getting.
