I have been getting 14.5-15.5 mpg only thing I have changed was tires and went with 265s. Gas mileage seems worse on highway than city. Light just came on at 270 miles from full to gas light. Filling up till first click usually between 17.8 and 18.3 gallons

I probably wouldn't due to hardly ever calculating fuel economy. When the tank is at 1/4, I fill it up.

By the way, the drunk driving accident occurred when I still had the 16” aftermarket wheels on my truck, so you can see what they looked like...

Getting hit by a drunk driver back in 2015 resulted in a lengthy legal battle that resulted in me waiting almost two months to get my truck fixed...

    175E3960-B667-4AF3-BAC6-B3792E4E7AF9.jpg

The accident happened October 28th, 2015 if I remember correctly. It was almost Christmas by the time I got my
truck fixed! The drunk’s insurance company believed his story that I’d run a stop sign and was refusing to pay. I was starting to get incredibly impatient and my insurance company opted to fix my truck and the sue the other company.

One night when I working at Puck, one of the bouncers kneecapped himself on the damaged bumper while walking past my truck in the parking lot. This, along with the fact that I’d already chipped the paint on the tailgate when opening it, prompted me to duct tape some bar rags around the bumper. This lasted about it a week before I finally became fed up and had my longtime body guy remove the bumper. Amazingly, I was not pulled over for driving around with my license plate in the rear window (with no lights to illuminate it). What’s really annoying is that a few days after I’d gotten the bumper removed, my insurance company decided to do the assessment of my truck so they could cut me a check to fix it, and they required the bumper to be present for this. The good news is that the the bumper did not have to be reattached to the truck for the insurance adjuster to look at it. The bad news is that the bumper was still at the body shop.

So, I had to drive at least six miles from my parents’ house in Furlong (no longer live there) to the body shop in Danboro, and then I had to drive at least another ten miles in the opposite direction from the body shop to the car dealership in Warrington where I was meeting the adjuster!

    :annoyed:

I found out that driving around with illuminated Christmas lights on your vehicle is illegal in Pennsylvania, but I think if I stick to local areas where the cops know me I’ll be fine...

Warrington Township, in my opinion, has some of the best officers in Bucks County! I know a few of them and they are all pretty cool! I think superior law enforcement is part of the reason why taxes in Warrington are so damn high!

    :spending:

Also, I think the Court of Public Opinion has got me covered in Doylestown!

    nice info

the rough idle could be many things

Motor mounts (replace trans mounts at same time) - might need re-torqued down as well as they've compressed over time.
    Timing chain tensioners
pulleys on front of motor including the tensioner assembly
    Maybe even Valve lash adjusters

140K on mine and I don't think the water pump has been done. My Brother has owned it since new and kept pretty much every record and I didn't find anything saying it was done. I just acquired it from him. All suspension parts appear OEM and have never been replaced as well. for like 5 years it was barely driven more than 12 miles a day.

I'm trying to get a list of all preventative things I can do as I know I need to replace valve cover gasket, spark plug gasket and spark plugs and PVC breather. I'm in AZ so I'm thinking I should probably do the coolant hoses and water pump just in case.

Air filter, maf sensor, plugs maybe? I doubt tires are doing it. I have the same truck and see 23 mpg highway in winter. 25-28 in summer. Premium actually makes me get worse mpg, 1-3 less. But I only did that once so not sure if definite.

You answered youre own question Charlie. When you are idling you are going zero miles but still burning gas. Figuring in the zero drops your miles per gallon. Try shutting it off instead of idling and see if that helps.

Plug in an OBD2 scanner and check your fuel trims to see if anything is funky with your vacuum system/injectors/o2 sensors, clean your MAF and throttle body, drive less aggressively, coast more, brake less, use cruise control if you have it.

I get about 270mi a tank running 87 and about 310mi a tank 91.. the closed loop system analyzes afr and adjusts its timing and fuel tables.. 91 is harder to burn so when it sees low afr it adjusts.. just as other factors such as Air Density/Density Altitude etc cause the ecu to change (MAF or MAP). as you can see in the table below, the same location air quality changes constantly and as we all know.. sea level or below you make the most power..

gains will be better with tuning of course but don't think there is nothing to gain.

Also, I stopped really complaining about gas mileage when my friend who lives in Hong Kong told me about his 1982 Rolls-Royce.

It gets HOT in Hong Kong, so A/C is pretty much obligatory. He says he gets 8 or 9 MPG on a good day, but when idling in traffic with the A/C on he’s observed as low as 5 or 6 MPG. Obviously, running a handmade Rolls-Royce V8 on anything but premium is a bad idea. Combine this with the ridiculous taxes HK imposes on gas and you’ve got yourself an economic nightmare!

Keep in mind that a Rolls-Royce Corniche weighs about three tons and has a V8 engine that’s literally the same size as the diesel engines found in both Dodge and Ford trucks, and has a 3-speed automatic transmission with no overdrive.

I once told my friend that it costs maybe forty bucks at most to fill up my Tacoma from a quarter of a tank, and he was so amazed that he showed the picture I took of my receipt to one of his friends in Hong Kong. He told me that he regularly pays the equivalent of over US$200 to refuel his Rolls.

Also, would anybody care to explain why my dad’s 1996 Nissan Pathfinder knocked when my uncle put 87 in it by mistake, but owners of 1996-1999 Pathfinders I’ve talked to say their vehicles run fine in 87? The owner’s manual called for 91 if I remember correctly, but 91 is not that common and my dad settled for 93. It makes no sense to me that a fuel-injected OBDII engine would become acclimated to premium and knock if given anything less...

If the owner's manual calls for 91 then he should be running 91, because that's what they (Nissan) tuned that engine for. People that get away with running 87 are either not hearing/seeing the negatives of doing so, or maybe they are just lying. Also depending on outside circumstances (elevation, temperature, etc.) the repercussions of using lower octane might not be as severe.

The knocking he hears when he runs regular is likely spark knock/detonation/"pinging"..different names for it. Lots of different causes and running too low of an octane is one of them. This is a good article on the subject

My dad always ran 93 because very few gas stations had 91. The Pathfinder was supposed to be my first vehicle, but the fact that it required premium and averaged about 16 MPG played a significant role in my dad’s decision to trade it for the Tacoma I have now ten years ago. I remember being absolutely livid at my uncle for just assuming it took regular and not asking my dad first.

If it requires 91 then going with 93 won't hurt anything, in fact it's probably even better for it. Manufacturer's say 91 in some manuals because we over here on the West coast don't get any higher octane than 91 at our pumps. I would run 93 if I could, supercharger would definitely like it even more
