AMA District 38 Offroad motorcycle racing. I was in the passenger seat of my buddy's Polaris RZR. We did a little over half of a lap of the course on Friday and found a couple places we were going to go to on Sat. morning to spectate. My buddy's wife and brother showed up on Sat. morning and we went four wheeling instead. We went exploring in the mud hills over by Painted Gorge.

I want to see those photos!
I'm heading out to my parents place in Vegas this weekend. Do any of y'all have experience with wheeling out there?

Nope, but I hear you can get all the way to Vegas via dirt road by using the Powerline Road at least I think that's what it's called...parallels the 15 through the desert if I recall correctly. I've never done it but I know people that have.

Yeah I've heard about that road before. I've seen a bunch of razors on it a few times heading out that way. I can't remember which section of it runs right next to the freeway. I'm thinking somewhere between barstow and baker.

I think there's a Las Vegas regional thread around here that you could probably get some good info on trails from...I know there's tons of offroading out there I just haven't done it myself

Yeah, my brother lives out there and has a Jeep YJ so I'm sure he has a few spots he will want to go to. I've heard of Rocky gap road but have never run it

    Yes.

I just sprayed it down with the hose to get most of it off and then went through the costco carwash twice.

Decided on a whim to hit up the Rincon Truck trail that starts in Azusa and runs along the top of the San Gabriels. For years I thought this trail was closed, turns out you just needed to drop by the Ranger station and get the code for the gate lock

Just a fire road that goes for 25 miles across the mountains, but right now it's closed off 10 miles in since apparently the recent weather has made it too rough beyond that. Nothing technical but still nice to know it's nearby my place for a quick dirt fix. Also good opportunity to get a couple photos of the new bumper and skid

Also when you get the code/permit for the Rincon trail it's good for 2 weeks (doesn't cost anything - Ranger said the forest adventure pass the website says is necessary is not needed unless you plan on parking out there to hike or camp). They change the lock combo every couple weeks. They give you a sticker to put on your rearview mirror.

Kind of odd steps to have to take to run a fire road, though.

I think they do that because they are hunting grounds. When I ran it the ranger asked me if I had a dog with me lol.
