Something I didn't know until very recently- you can post in certain forums- new members, off topic and maybe others where you can make thousands of posts and your post count never increases. Any likes you get on those forums do count.

I don't think is was like this when I first joined.

Another factor is the "like" button is relatively new on TW. Many older established members who have been making solid posts early on would have very low like to post counts.

Like count to post count ratio is therefore irrelevant imo.

Kudos to you for sticking with the subject.

Sometimes a new person can see things more clearly than people who have been around longer, imo.

I will say that if you like this forum, just find some threads and participate. You will probably understand why things are the way they are after you have more time in.

I know, my first two points are kind of contradictory, but this place is very unique.

Also informative, fun and usually interesting.

Stick around and see ft yourself...lol

I might or might not have taken full advantage of that.:anonymous: The story I heard was to prevent people from getting their 50 posts in the green room. Whether that was an actual problem, I dunno. :notsure:

However, I'm still going to offer my counterpoint: no measurable metric matters, it's all irrelevant. This place is like my barbershop - great for some lighthearted banter, not so great for meaningful advice. Dont get me wrong, Ive picked up some useful info here for sure. But its like finding the godiva chocolate in a bowl full of bullshit. And the same guy that might have been super helpful in one thread, could be currently ranting about how 4wd is useless in the snow in another.

Its a strange paradoxical shitshow, this place. Run by lunatics that I absolutely would not trust to properly water a houseplant, but for some reason I'll try their best recommendations for rewiring the dashboard. :drunk: I just go in knowing with 50/50 odds, either that trail camera will work like a champ or somehow the radio only displays dick pics, again.

I have read thru many threads - The humor in this forum is frigging awesome.

Forum is full of wit, humor and a wee bit of BS - I just prefer order to chaos but as I wander thru I find the chaotic order is shining thru.

I got used to a pile of motorcyclist forums where order is everything.

It goes with the territory I guess - People have to be orderly on a bike - do this this way as your life is on the line.

Inside a cage - not so much so I guess it reflects in the forum overall.

Maybe someone can start a poll - or do a pole dance - or pull out early and not get stuck in the mud (which never happens).

May the trails take us all to places with a great journey ta boot.

I am all for a new section - Humorous Posts by Newbies

A place you can tell us:
We are not bright enough to.....
Have not posted here enough to..........
Should use the dang Search Engine thingie to..........

I can start it off with a Post about "Why so many sticky threads here"?

Looks like somebody up there is listening to what you have to say.

A second 3rd gen "sticky" is not sticky anymore, and also locked.

The lock part might have been helped by somebody's story of Santa getting some Christmas tail...

I didn't want to change how the board is run I was looking for members to state if they liked it or not. If the majority liked the stickies as they were I could adapt but if they wanted change I suspected the moderators would see that and make the change.

I have been a member of a few other forums. Several bike and jeep. Just found that "Loud Mufflers" & "Show me pics of your Black Gen three" to be odd Stickies.

They were not about the forum nor technically any real help. Whick I thought from experience in other forums was what stickies were were used for.

The best motorcycle ( and mtn bike) riders are not orderly. Nobody is best when they stay in the confines of the rules. However, they usually stay alive. So, ordinary = rules. Extraordinary = chaos. It all about risk.
Once upon a time, i raced motocross. I was top 10 rider. Top 3 riders were a different breed. Same on bike. Top 10 mtn biker. Top 3, again, made us look tame. Both on and off the track lol.

I only broke the top 10 once. Day before the race it poured rain. Enough rain that parts of the course had 12+ inches of standing water on the pre-ride. All of that sank in overnight, and by the morning of all 20 miles was one giant mud fest. People were snapping chains left and right, an those who weren't were so bogged down they were practically pedaling in place. I watched one poor bastard, his derailleur got so caked it wrapped around backwards and bent the rear stays on his frame. He had an expensive race. After witnessing that I decided I wasn't that rich, so I hopped off and started jogging with my bike on my shoulder. I took 5th place doing that.

1st place was a crazy SOB who did the race on a single speed, rigid forked, steel frame. Same fucker stayed up late in camp the night before and partied with the DNF crew. I still secretly hate that guy.

Similar impression I got when nationally-winning autocross drivers would show up to the local events. I had a really solid skill set, but no where near the finesse, still loved to 'compete' against those people. The only drivers that irked me were the ones who would do 1-2 events each year with zero car setup, no name summer tires, not even checking tire pressures, and would get seriously respectable times in their class.

You guys have to remember I am 56 years old lol. Motorcross was fairly new 40 years ago. I raced in 250 class. Top 10 regionally not nationally!
Mtn bike was 35 to 30 years ago, mid to late 80's. Again a fledgling sport.
Basically here's the deal... I was batshit crazy and finished in top 10. I used lines that only a few others would use. Top 3 though? They made me look like sane. They used lines I wouldn't take. Broke a lot of bones back in the day...

It appears that soon the third gen sticky threads might outnumber the active current threads on a Friday night. That could be the goal.
