That looks nice. Looks like the Tundra Kit. How much is it? I’m glad Toyota is providing it. I just wish they would install it and it would come stock as much as their customers pay for their trucks and as much as their customers are getting their tailgates stolen. You would think this would be just an insurance policy for them to give their customers.

About $140 plus shipping for the kit. The install costs more than the kit!

Is the harness long enough from the tailgate to the kick panel? I checked online and my dealer have it available for $140 free shipping if I pickup at the store, which is 15min away. You'll get 1 year warranty being a genuine Toyota part too!!!

I actually bought my kit from Toyota, even though it IS a popnlock and in popnlock packaging. I did so as sort of payback for the help I got from the salesman there. Anyway, I posted a video of my installation after the fact, which shows another option, which I personally think is the best, but hey, that is my humble opinion in my own case! And Toyota has a complete set of instructions to their dealers for installation of the popnlock that are actually available online if you do a search for toyota popnlock. Here is the link to my video:

Are you running any sales on your kit? I tried to purchase yours on black Friday but had problems with your website like other people did and missed the sale, plus I had questions regarding the differences on your kits etc. :(

Yep, the harness is precisely the required length to reach the passenger side kick panel.

Yeah. My 2020 Sport had the wire clips for one harness in that spot from the factory, but this kit included the two new "double" clips to have the harnesses side-by-side. For anyone doing the install, I recommend following that section closely and line up the harnesses specifically as the instructions state (mark them before hand so they are both the same length, etc). It's a little tricky because the space between the tailgate and bed is tight, but once you get everything lined up and back together the two harnesses line up nicely. It ends up looking exactly as clean as it did originally, just with two harnesses going into the bed instead of one. Then all you gotta do to remove the tailgate, should the need ever arise, is undo the two connectors under the bed (camera and remote lock) and the harnesses will come out in one piece.

Yeah, that seems to be the kit they were using before 2019 when they started also using an OEM one for whatever reason. The OEM one is definitely quieter, if that matters to anyone, but they are both great kits and do the job I think.

I've got the KTJO 4x4 kit, it was a very straight forward install. I couldn't be happier! And I actually like the noise it makes so I know that the tail gate is locking/unlocking. I also agree that it should be an included option at this point...

Mostly stock. Icon wheels, running boards, sounds, custom grill, front camera.
I also got mine from Katie. Very professionally packed and quality kit. No drilling and no splicing wires. Truly plug and play. Couldn’t be happier.

That’s cool. The OEM one definitely isn’t silent. You can clearly hear it working, it’s just not loud af like the pop’n’lock. It sounds about the same as the doors, maybe a bit louder.

All these various kits seem good and get the job done. Sounds like one really can’t go wrong with any of them.

@Katie. Is there an install video anywhere? I was looking for one and couldn’t find one.

So how much for the complete kit? I want everything. The lock, the unlock, the open with the three presses of the key fob. I see it is $150 0n the website but do i still need to by the module for the key fob separately? TIA

Installed a Pop & Lock last weekend (2019 DCLB) Install was easy, wiring instructions were still wrong on the package I received (green on green, blue on red, passenger side 10 pin connector is what worked for me). I will confirm that it is loud. The sound is more than just the actuator itself. Where the mechanism makes contact with the tumbler and the area of the mechanism where the return springs are, make a grinding noise. Its metal on metal, sharp unfinished edges riding on one another (it was definitely not engineered to be quiet and friction free) This is also amplified because of the hollow cavity of the tailgate.

Fishing around, youll find all kinds of solutions. Sound dampening and grease seems to be a common theme.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/diy...-light-and-pop-lock-for-tailgate.12187/page-4

It is safe to say that any solution you go with is better than using the tailgate key. For now I will deal with the choice that I made and I'll tackle this sound dampening in the coming weeks. I'm curious if the OEM is engineered better. If it's more quiet and engineered better, I would have rather spent an additional $50 on an OEM, rather than dynamat.

Go to Youtube and in the search box, type in "how to install pop n lock in toyota tacoma", and it will bring up MANY videos showing exactly how to do it. I didn't link any because they were too numerous.

Also, I am attaching a file directly from TOYOTA, on how to do the install, as official, from Toyota. HOWEVER, look for videos online on Youtube, because there is a slightly different way to do it, depending on how you want it to work. In my case, I didn't want it to unlock every dang time I unlocked my doors, so I ordered and bought the PopNLock switch that was designed for people who do not have automatic door locks. It is a simple rocker switch that one can mount on the dash in an available slot, or wherever, that unlocks/locks the tailgate lock by hitting the rocker switch. That was best in my situation, but everyone's situation is different. Here is the attached file from Toyota:

@KTJO 4x4 just saw the kit you make and it looks amazing. Wish I found this before I dropped $91 on a pop & lock. If I wasnt such an anxious TW noob, I would have done a better job researching. Unfortunately when you google tailgate lock solutions, you're bombarded with Pop & Lock pages a mile long.
