Thread updated to reflect our current line of ULTIMATE Lift Struts.

Spiker Engineering's ULTIMATE Lift struts, the latest version of our "high-lift" hood struts, are now available for the 3rd Gen Tacoma at https://spikerengineering.com/product/16+_tacoma.

These are the only kits available that allow you to set your hood height up to 8" higher than stock, giving you unparalleled access and lighting, not to mention saving you from banging your head against the open hood if you're over 6' tall.

To answer a common question we get, you do not have to set the height higher than stock, you can choose whatever height suits you, or if you need a to accommodate ditch lights.

As with all our products, all components are made in the USA, down to the shipping tubes. All hardware is included, consisting of heavy gauge gloss black powder coated brackets, heavy duty multi-grip rivets, and OEM quality high lift gas struts with a 5 year warranty.

Check out the effortless one-fingertip lifting of the Tacoma hood with these struts:

can you manipulate the height, like set it for in the garage but later shift it up easily?

Do you know if the diff between these and the redline struts are the height difference?

Would this still have clearance for the ditch lights? It's a little tight at the stock height

The height is set during installation, and can't be changed unless you're willing to reposition the hood brackets. For the "high lift" configurations, we recommend not discarding the factory prop rod, because it can be used to limit the hood opening to stock height, for when you're working on the truck in a low overhead garage.

The brackets cost a bit more than other kits, so the price is $88 for the complete kit.

There are differences in both the strut lengths and force profiles.

That's the beauty of choosing your own open height - you can set it to just below where the ditch lights would hit, here is an example on a 2nd Gen:

I'm interested if only just for being lower priced than the Redline.

What kind of modification is needed to the truck to install these?

For stock trucks, and others without too many accessories along the fenders, you won't need to reposition anything.

The only permanent mods will be drilling two 3/16" holes on each inner fender, (which will be completely covered by the trim piece), and two more in each hood reinforcement.

Another comparison view of prop rod and other kits vs. the SPIKER high lift kit (sorry about the dirt, just came back from a fun Death Valley run):
