Flickering dash lights

I noticed after I turn off the truck (press power off button) the dash lights and other lights such as the lights on the shifter etc flicker like the battery is dying. I checked my battery and it's over 12.6 volts (when truck is off) and it never hesitates at all when I start the truck.

Is this normal or any idea what it can be?

 

Do you have the headlight stalk in Auto on?

 

Nope, it doesn't do it all the time either and I should mention it's completely stock electrical wise

 

Turn Tacoma ON, then select low beam, then Tacoma Off. Have someone outside observing the parking lights. See if they also flicker when shutting down.

 

I'll check it out, what would that determine/rule out? I'll most likely go buy an agm just to rule out the battery, I'm still under warranty for about another thousand miles

 

Test the battery under load . Truck running with lights and heater on .

 

The relay that handles the dash illumination circuit also handles the Parking lights circuit.

 

If the relay coil and/or its ground has an intermittent "signal" you get coil chatter, which would be visible as light flickering while shutting down (off).

 

Bought a duralast platinum agm for 200, will update if issue still occurs

 

If it were the battery, the symptoms would be at start...but...

 

I know I was planning to get an agm anyway since I'm usually out in the sticks by myself

 

In all seriousness thank you for your help, I'll look into the relay. I did the parking light thing and it didn't flicker. And it hasn't occurred recently even before I swapped out for the new battery. Hopefully it stays that way lol

 

Ok update, it flickers if you turn the truck off with the headlights ON but not with the lights OFF. Fuck you Toyota and your worthless Jap[anese] pos (saying that tongue in cheek...sorta)

 

Sooo...would you do another test? Leave lights stalk in Parking Lights select only, then shut Off the Torakku, hai?

Ok update, I brought the vehicle into the dealer and showed them a few videos of it happening. They said they can't replicate the problem (had it for a few days) so they cant do anything about it basically.

Also whenever I'm talking to someone via truck bluetooth the person I'm speaking with complains there is always a buzzing sound. I asked the service advisor to have the tech look into and he blamed it on a radio software update issue

 

So stand by for more issues...soon

I really didn't feel like tackling diagnosing electrical problems but apparently neither did the dealer lol. Oh well another project to add on to my already full plate
