There WAS a line right where I made the cut. It's not like I missed it by a full few inches hahaha ignore that bottom line.

 

If you’re making straight cuts set up a piece of angle iron and use it as a fence.


I have one of these things. It came with some consumables I bought. If I’m gonna be ripping a bunch of pieces or making a bunch of cuts I want held to a tighter tolerance I use the roller guide.




I’m sure some of the guys in here will have better advice. I don’t do a ton of manual plasma cutting these days and when it do it’s to remove cam tabs or rip 5x8 sheets into smaller sizes for storing and easier loading into the plasma table.

 

Was gonna say the same thing. Eastwood makes this cool magnetic strip stuff for hand plasma cutting things where if you have a drag tip you can run it along the edge of the magnetic strip and do nice lines and curves and stuff with it

That's not a plasma cutter it's an oxy/acetylene torch. Way different animal

That's a pretty straight cut for an oxy torch
Years ago, I ran one of those every day for a few months. More suited to demo work. At least that's all I ever used it for.

 

Oh shit I had assumed it was a plasma as well. I didn’t look at the pic close enough.

Yeah what they said! A full oxy torch setup I took as a trade for a cmc. Talk about a win. If that was a plasma cut, good fucking god I would suck

 

I just using this for practice. The torch will primarily be used for cutting stock mounts and rivets off a tacoma for shock relocates and stuff. Def not a tool of precision!

 

I was actually debating on whether or not I could get away with using a torch to cut my leaf spring hangers off. I don't have a plasma cutter. Not sure if I'd risk buggering the frame.

 

I don’t see why not. The next set I do I was gonna grind the heads off, heat up the rivet and punch it out with an air chisel. See how that works out for me.

 

I don't know about that. You can setup a piece of angle, as was mentioned previously, to use as a fence/guide and get straight cuts. Also, the guys that I used to work with in NM made really straight cuts and round holes without any guide using oxy torches, but they've been doing it for decades.

 

With practice the oxy/acetylene can be very precise. I use that at work for cutting pipe with a bevel saves much time with the grinder... set the oxygen around between 40 and 60 and acetylene around 6 take your time and you should be able to get a decent cut.

The little metal dowel next to the pin needs to be adjusted a little to where the follower sits at the same height as the die. I drew a red arrow to it

push the pin down from the top of the follower so it makes it a little longer and shims up the follower to the same height as the die
