1 or 2 gallon chemical sprayer for undercoating

Another for WoolWax. Kellsport is gracious enough to offer a 15% discount to Tacoma world patrons. Figured why not. PITA to spray in the cold. Outside temps were 45 to 50 F both days. Had to thin by dunking in hot water periodically. As it was a first time was unsure of the work. But now that the salt is out in full force, the woolwax is doing wonders. Other day, had salt formations on the outside of the truck. Frame just showed dirt covered woolwax!!!

 

With my $800 compressor and $30 sprayer, I can do 3 trucks with 1 gallon of FF. I've paid for my tools 3 times over just this season. I've still got 3 more trucks scheduled. I'm not doing this with a hand sprayer. I can do a much better job, too.

If you can afford a $40+k vehicle and you plan to keep it, you can afford to take care of it. Me, I'm gonna do the best job I can. A sprayer isn't going to acceptable for. It does NOT work as well as a compressed air sprayer.

 

I do want to try WW.

 

I'm already sold on WW! Its advertised as no odor. FF smells like faint cat piss to me.

the $350ish HF compressor i had to get was basically a 'sunk' cost to run the abrasive blaster gun
i can understand some may not have the benefits of a garage and/or driveway to store and work on stuff
especially in an apartment complex,etc.
i have already offered my driveway and air compressor spray gun use to a few TW members in my region

dirt and sand adhere to that WW fairly noticeably?

Looking at the pics, it just looks a littlerunnier than FF. They both are lanolin based.

It's gonna grab dirt the same.

 

FF smells good to me WW smells like a barn it has a distinct animal smell to it. It does seem to go away after a while but it's fairly strong when you first spray it my garage smelled for several days.

how do either of those smell on any overspray on the exhaust components

 

It smells a little worse and burns off quick. Best thing to do though - is not spray on any exhaust component. Might need a gas mask to drive around for about a week. It smells really bad when it's hot.

Bonus: That linked thread actually suggests using an undercoating gun, so not sure why you're dragging @koditten (who suggested using an undercoating gun) under the bus here.

 

LOL, FF smells like straight manure to my nose! Sitting in the can- no smell; get it atomized- smells like you rolled around in a barnyard.

Coincidentally, this past weekend was the first chance I had to do my first application of fluid film. I bought a spray gun with a flexible hose + 360° nozzle and some reviews said they could not get it work with FF. With this thread in mind, I went ahead and heated my FF and it worked perfectly with the nozzle. From what I've seen on here, a lot people wait until autumn to apply FF, and if you are doing it in cooler weather, you might want to heat it.

 

the FF smell was not that bad to me, i have smelt much worse in the past working many weeks in sewage treatment plants during the summer and the worst was probably at a plant where they make dog and cat food good grief how can my poor dog eat that nasty smelling stuff they call food

anyways, i was sorta stoked to find out this imported Canadian gel CF 3000 had no smell, no drip and no odd color like FF, which just looked funky yellow out of the rattle can

here is what CF 3000 looks like misted on a body panel passenger side seam to prevent any roadspray seeping through the paint like had happened at some point in the past on the driver side in this area. it adheres and creeps like a magnet
i will keep tabs on how durable it is this winter with routine spot-free rinsing and door jam wipedowns which would probably just wipe it right off, i don't know yet!

Funny, I did plumbing for 6 years in an area with septic tanks, and I now do a few sanitary sewer evaluations so I'm used to that smell and FF was still somewhat offensive to my nares.

 

i definitely respect plumbers and those smells they come into contact with.

 

Not to mention, using a hand pump sprayer to spray thick liquids through a small tube....nah. That will wear out my fingers. If you have a small compressor just get the gun, if you don't get just get the sprayers. I actually used 6 cans to finish the underside and behind the bumper on my little sisters yaris. I made sure I coat the underside and behind the gas tank too.

 

I opened my gallon of Fluid Fil, cut a wire hanger and twisted it to make a mixer and mixed it really well with a drill when it was late fall. Dumped it into my $20 Harbor Freight abrasive blaster and it worked great. Ive got the 21 gallon Harbor Freight oiled compressor and had no issues other than letting the compressor build pressure again.
Only downside is it's hard to get in the frame but i'm happy with how it worked.

 

Unfortunately my pic proves me wrong on the salt. Salt did adhere to woolwax as you can see in the right of the pic. Either the road spray has eviscerated the woolwax there or I just looked at the frame on a day when unsalted road spray washed the salt off. Regardless, I’ll be touching up that spot soon enough. Ahh the power of owning

 

the sand and stuff might be able to be hosed off fairly easily, while leaving the WW coating behind?

i am now trying to figure how much psi the FF and WW can withstand before blowoff
and how much psi on average most car washes with the hand wands use

 

If crystal salt is on the top of WW why would you bother washing it off. I hope WW is the same as FF - whatever is on the top of FF in my truck does not go through, meaning stays away from the frame. No worries, WW or FF will not rust because the salt is sitting on it
