so after my search, i guess my 2 options for a shorter antenna with same stock reception would be from Shortyantennasource.com or Antennax.com

anybody have pics of their antennas bought from these sites? im looking into the billet 13" or 14" antennas but would like to see pics of them on our trucks first.....

Good point. As a note, I can't comment on the recpetion of my Shortyantennasource one either, as I have not once turned on the non-satellite radio. I don't even know if it works to be honest.....

I have an 8 inch from shortyantennasource.com. No pics yet but I can say reception has been about the same except I lost one good station I used to listen to in DE about 30 miles away. Other then that Im very happy with it.

Oh BTW I had to shave about 1/16 - 1/8 of an inch off of the stud they gave me because the threads stuck out a bit. Dunno if anyone else had that issue from there.

Now I have LR UCA's, Maxtrac Spindles, Eibach's, 5100's up front, Expos, 5160 for the rear, U Bolt Flip Kit, and Extended Brake lines.
Cant you just take a bolt cutter or some kind of wire snip and shorten it?

looks like shorty is the way to go. after doing some research, seems like antennax has reception problems, after installing it, for some people

I had a 14" Shorty and I did lose some reception, but I live in a rural area. After having it for a few months I decided to take my original antenna and shortened it to a length that is pretty close to even with the top of the cab or a hair shorter. The shorty was a little too short for me. Going back to a shortened original increased my reception to what it was before going to the Shorty. Again I'm in a rural area, so if you're in a metropolitan area you shouldn't see any issues with the Shorty. A couple of pros to cutting your original is cost and more customization.

To begin, remove the antenna and take a pair of pliers to "hammer" the ball off of the antenna. To do this you need the pliers to remain loose around the antenna to avoid too much scratching. It takes a couple of good whacks but the bal. will come off. You don't want to try to twist if off as it will gouge the ball. It is best to aim it in a box or some other receptacle so you don't lose it. After that cut the antenna to the desired length (I believe I did 10" to make it a little lower than the roof of the cab). I used a Dremel tool, but I assume wire snips or something similar will work. After that reattach the ball with super glue, hit with some black spray paint to cover any scratches and reattach to truck.
