What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Its starting to sound like that's the case, AP got their instructions backward I guess lol. Or just forgot to mention that the 01 - 04 needed cutting as well

 

Instructions aren't backwards.

They're talking about cutting off the frame horns that are on the front of the frame, not the side.

 

I'm mostly just referring the one part of the 95-00 instructions that specifically mentions cutting those wings off before the bumper goes on. On the 01 - 04 it isn't mentioned. Just says to slide bumper over frame rails and bolt on. When you get to that part it's obvious it has to be cut off anyhow though.

 

You should have painted the red behind the bumper before putting it on. Would make a nice clean look

 

Debating doing it black or color matched red paint, I can get to it pretty easily with the bumper on. Also been told that trimming some rubber baseboard to fit looks good there, will have to play around with it

 

Found a used set of 285/70/17s with bead lock wheels for $600 and couldn’t pass them up. Installed them today. I can definitely tell that it’s time for a regear now.

That's the odd thing, in their write up the pictured truck didn't have to either. Not sure why some of our later models have the wings on the frame rail ends and others don't. Anyway it wasn't a big deal, easily solved with a grinder.

 

Paint it black. The red will stand out and make it look more like you're seeing something that shouldn't be exposed. The black would blend it all in.

I'd agree. You only need the press for the bearings and studs, everything else you can do yourself with rented/made tools at home. It will keep the cost way down.

 

I'll add check out the local thread. There's usually someone who will help for the price of beer.
