Well, I hope everyone has been having a good season. We're done, and the freezer is filled. All we have left is to make sausage when the time is right. We took our usual 3 for the year, but nothing to write home about as we just wanted to cull some spikes and does and the occasional older buck that is just never going to be anything special. We have several young 10 and 12 ptrs that are running around that I expect will be very nice in a year or two. To be honest, they're already very nice, but I'm curious to see how they mature. I see no shortage of freezer fillers in our future. I saved back the biggest buck (an older 6 pt) for sausage, and with the pork mix, we should end up with just over 100 lbs of sausage for the year. So all in all, not a bad season. It's been a lot of work, since ours go from the pasture to cut/ground & shrink packed in the freezer in the same day. But we're flush in steaks and ground meat for the year. That's never a bad thing. Since my oldest will be an old married gal by next season, I suspect it will be time for me to return to the blind and do some of the knocking down next year.

My season's done. Two does, one at 90-ish pounds and the other at 100-ish. The 90-pounder was my first ever deer! :bananadance:

Going for my last trip of the year, this weekend. I’m thinking about baptizing my new custom APR, she’s never been in the woods before. We have extended doe and spike season in Lampasas county.
