What’s up Tacoma fam! So new to owning a truck and am having fun starting to do things to the truck. With that said I removed the air deflector on the front bottom of the truck. I’m digging the look of it and I noticed underneath it kind of looks exposed. Probably just me being picky with looks but can you cover the front bottom with a skid plate or something else, or is it stupid/ unnecessary ?

Your SR5 does not have the OEM back (oil pan area) skid plate. You can find one on CL for about 20$. Yes, it is thin, but better than nothing I guess.

Raptor 4" oval rails, OEM door sill protectors, totally debadged, OEM mud guards, OEM bed mat, OEM S/S tail pipe extension, BDT tailgate letters, Weather Tech sun screen.
I also have the OEM skid plates (2 piece set) that I just took off my new 2020 TRD OR. They are new (no scratches, dings, etc.) and will sell them w/hardware cheap. Replaced them with the TRD skid plate. I am not that wild about the red letters but the guys at the shop think they are "neat" but I heard one of them say "some people will waste their money on the craziest shit!"

Welcome to Tacoma World. There are tons of threads on these, so learn how to use google and "tacoma world" along with your search term. Read, read, read...

As to your question, neither of the OEM Off-Road brush guards that you are missing will change the frontal appearance. You basically can't see those guards unless you are crawling underneath your truck. The TRD Pro skid changes the frontal look a bit. You can search for threads on how that looks and functions.

But judging by the way you asked the question, yes, it is unnecessary that you get anything more because you probably don't have experience driving places where you would need additional protection.

Yeah, slap a skid plate under there. If your going for looks the trd stamped one looks good and offers more protection than the flimsy ones on the sr5 (I have an sr5 too)

More of a gravel guard to stop from kicking rocks into the engine bay on the SR5 than a skid plate. I replaced mine with full ARB skids that go passed the t case

The SR, SR5, TRD Sport, and Limited all have the same skid plate, I believe. Here it is next to the RCI.

Mine came with the front angled one behind the chinstrap (Which I took off), but not the flat back one. I'm just a 2WD'r though. Maybe the SR5 4X4 comes with both OEM "skids"?

    +1 for this.
I have RCI aluminum armor on my IFS, transmission, transfer case and gas tanks (with SR5 you need to change out the gas tank straps; pm me for what to do when you accidentally strip out of the threads on the strap mount ).

Also have RCI rock sliders (these are steel).

And is it worth it? Well, at the beginning of this fall I took a real hit to the IFS skid. I would have sustained real, probably expensive, damage if I'd had that OEM flimsy thing.
