I'm not sure I understand the logic behind pursuing a SC kit when the only proprietary component would be the tune. Better to let the big boys provide the hardware and instead focus on providing a superior tune.

I mean, the hardware will be figured out by then. Software is the only meaningful factor at the point. Might as well make the 20% mark-up on hardware when someone chooses your software.

Exactly. The headaches and logistical challenges of providing a SC kit that's basically identical to the competition at likely worse margins (purchasing scale) would just be a distraction and time sink. Better to focus resources on the products that make real money, i.e. NA tunes, TC kits, and SC tunes.

We already have a Rotrex S/C kit.
But my point is that another Rotrex S/C kit is on the market, provided by URD.
So we would have to compete against their kit directly and their price.

The Magnuson kit and harrop kit are competing against each other, and that's a different type of supercharger.

But nobody else is doing turbos :)

Bingo. Don't waste your time and resources competing with a product that's already gone to market. Focus on the unique stuff, that's your niche and your market. Maybe offer a tune for the URD kit that's better than what they're putting out since you already have some R&D sunk into it, but the turbo kits are going to have a big following imo, and the entry product that will get people on board is the NA tuning you've already got out there.

true - it would be nice if the Tune(s) we have from Mat would be the Tune(s) needed to go with the hardware being developed - selfishly wanting not to throw out Mat's tune just to purchase another. Yes the Tune from another may work but the shifting logic work Mat has provided is unmatched.

my point is the price of the URD kit was lower than what I expected, and a rotrex unit, just the S/C is almost $3k by itself.

I have not given up by any means. But we have to re-assess how we will do it.

I have the twins, but not his newest ones that will be in a fully tested kit. Honestly I haven’t even have a minute to mock them up, so by the time I’m ready he will probably have a full bolt on/test kit which is rather have anyway.

Right. If you're buying TT our kit.

But we aren't giving out free Magnuson and Harrop S/C tunes.

    Yea so important to know:
if you own our flash kit and want our TT kit, the tune for the kit is included in the price of the kit. (you just need our flash kit to flash it!)
if you buy a magnuson / Harrop and want us to tune it or use our tune for it, there will be a tuning fee. Otherwise everyone will just use our map when they buy a tuner version kit from harrop/magnuson.

URD has a near exact setup on their website although I think Mats is an air-to water setup where URD is an air to air. Air to air is less prone to heat soak, But something to note is that rotrex’s are pretty efficient and don’t produce all that much heat. I will vouch 1st hand that URD’s kit is well made, they’ve out done themselves with the fit and finish. The kit is offered without tuning as it looks at the moment and if they eventually do offer tuning it will likely be with a Ucon EMS that URD offers with all of their other kits. I currently run their Ucon EMS system myself. It has launch control, guardian and many other advanced features. That said it isn’t without its faults and issues. If Mat bails on the sc kit, I’d get the Urd kit and get Mats tune. Peanut butter and Jelly.

I think if they could they would. The Ucon is plugged between the factory ecu and the engine harness. Meaning they would have to source out connectors. It has proved to be a HUGE obstacle in the past for the 2nd gen taco, setting them back something like 4-5 years before they were able to get their mitts on them. It’s seems the tuning aspect for the other SC manufacturers for the 3rd Gen taco looks to be a rather big obstacle for them as well.
