What do you mean by 'Vacuum Actuated Steering? My truck has a power steering pump with fluid in it so it is hydraulic.

I have the same response to steering input, and it was super unnerving the first time it happened - I was inching my truck into a tight parking space. Now I’m used to it; the dealer did the software update but nothing changed. I’ve never had a vehicle do this, and I’ve driven a lot of vehicles over the last few decades. But if you get used to it, it’s OK. You’d think they’d be able to program the ECU to prevent this sort of thing, especially at extremely low speeds.

I understand where OP is coming from. I've owned dozens of cars/trucks in my day and 90% of them did have a slight idle surge when turning the wheel. My Tacoma is just too much though. OP didn't realize this, but it's probably better his idle does not jump up. At least for this truck.

I think he's confusing the braking haha. But I see your path

Oh ok that makes sense but he would be incorrect on that as it's not the transmission choice that causes the brake systems to differ. The Off Road and Pro have the electro/hydraulic brake booster/mc for A-TRAC and crawl control, while all the other models have the old traditional style vacuum booster.

Surprised that so far the OP or somebody else didn't make a video of it.
My taco has a bit of RPM increase when stopped and turning the wheel 1-2" left or right.
I can shoot a video but no place to host it.

Know what that makes sense. My 2018 M/T Sport was next to a 2018 AT Off-Road. My bad.

For the record my revs stay stable with turning and if anything they drop if I hit full lock.

I got to thinking about it afterwards and figured that is probably what happened, funny how they do different things in these trucks.

(also kinda feel a little silly because, duh, a new truck with vacuum steering? lol)

I suppose the vacuum vs hydraulic actuation could explain stiffer steering on manuals?

I think he means that when the power steering pump increases load it makes vacuum which pulls on the engine causing it to idle up

No, he was mistaken earlier and was thinking about brakes.

    Have the above TSB done.
Mine was ridiculously BAD -- they did this TSB and it became a "normal" truck again.
If you need more info check my posts from a couple years back.

To the OP -- not sure this TSB applies to MT's -- my guess is -not

I have a 19 6MT with OVT FOB 91 tune. I have noticed my rpms going up when I am holding the footbreak down at a light. Rpm go down the moment I release the foot break and use the handbrake instead. Wondering if anyone else experienced this too? I have had tons of MT cars, don't recall this happening with any other car.

I don't know if it has to do with OVtune (I don't have it yet) but especially on a cold start mine will rev with brake pedal at a light or sometimes I think it might rev when the brake is pressed to boost the alternator to compensate for the electrical power needed for the electronic brake booster

Yup, thats my experience as well. Happens well engine is cold and dissipates when engine warms up. Its colder now, so i suppose it did not happen in the summer when I originally got the truck.
