Don't get me wrong, I don't hate my job, but what do y'all do when you spend more time working or thinking about work than you do with the rest of your life? The wife and I see each other literally a couple hours a day, if that. Because of our schedules, I see her for a minute or two in the morning before I leave for work, and she gets home at best a few hours before I have to get ready for the next day and go to bed. Seriously, even the weekends are spent just catching up on the chores and housework that get put aside during the week. I guess I just need to vent, not real happy with life right now, but it could always be worse.

Think about the kid in sub-saharan Africa that's currently threading twine through some crushed plastic Pepsi bottles so he can use them as sandals to walk 15 miles across the desert and pick up his family's 1-week ration of rice from the local red cross station, which may or may not be overrun by local warlords' guerilla forces who are seizing all the food.

Sounds like you are using work to escape whatever is causing you not to be real happy right now?.............Kind of like people medicating w/beer or illegal substances ...........make sense?.....maybe you and your wife should set apart some time with each other and talk about it...

Don't forget to have fun every now and then. If you have the chance, take the wife out for a nice dinner, or just do something together that you both enjoy. Anything to take your mind off of work.

Life is too short to waste it. Do what makes you happy.

Nope, for once I've got some down time. Thanks for all the suggestions so far, don't really know what my problem is. Like I said, things could always be way worse, on paper at least I've got things pretty good, house, wife, 2 dogs, tacoma, and steady job.

And you get to hang out with all of us on the internet. Which is pretty damn special, if I do say so myself.

Honestly you need to conciously set aside one of those evenings before the weekend and take each other out to break the grind. It is not healthy to stay apart you need to cultivate the love that got you together in the first place. At least you'll still have the weekend to 'catch up' stuff. I feel for ya pal I am retired now but I remember all too well that 2 days off aint sh*t and before you know it back to work.

Your sked doesn't sounds much different from my wife and I. I woke up as she came in the door this morning...She got our son ready for daycare while I got dressed for work. Kissed her good bye and she went to sleep....I worked. And she was on her way out the door when I brought him home at 430.
We spend the weekends and days off and what not doing stuff around the house together. We do have to work pretty hard to make the time to get out and do stuff as a couple and as a family...but we do.

It's work to be happy with youe life...but it is yours. You gotta decide if you need to quit/change shifts or change somewhere else.

I think if I could answer that I probably wouldn't have felt like posting this thread. Maybe it's the start of a mid-life crisis, but I've always thought that was BS so maybe not.

I agree. You guys need some quality time together. I think lack of time together is the major cause of divorce.

35, so depending on who you ask I could be 1/2 way done with life. My pop's 74 and still working and my grandmother lived to be 85, so maybe I'll make it past 80.
