Listening to the redneck radio KJDX out of Susanville, a caller said they had received a letter from the DMV stating they needed Liability insurance before their registration could be renewed for their side by side/ATV. Another wake up call from Kalifornia.
Do you have a 3/4 ton truck or larger? Ready to go electric?

I'm surprised they haven't added that requirement for dirt bikes yet.

People drive like huge ass hats in UTVs. I'm actually not opposed to this. The amount of liability behind giving any Tom, Dick, or Harry keys to a 1000cc turboed machine with no prior experience is huge.

Thinking for those who only use around the home, ranch, farm, has to be registered if ever hauled on the highway or county road.
Guess the cost is low, so not a deal breaker if you can afford one of the newer toys that can be had these days.

I'd imagine the number of people who purchase these for utility use is dwarfed compared to the recreational users.

If it's on private land do you have to register it?

Most places if you only and ever use it on one particular piece of private property, it's fine, but if you have to haul it along a public road for any reason, then it needs a tag. Not sure how the "farm use" plates work but that could be another exception.

We don't register any offroad vehicles in TEXAS. Cop comes up, you spit tabacky, he spits tabacky. Then you nod your head, he nods his head you nod your heads at the same time and that's it

The list is long but distinguished
Surprised it took this long. My father had a collision with someone in Ocotillo Wells and they did not have insurance (my father insures everything). The other party ran into serious trouble as they had no one to help them with the negotiations.

I have been forced to green sticker rigs never used on public land

All this law is going to do is make more people ride stickerless. Which means less money for ohv parks. Which then means less places for stickered toys to play. I have ridden dirtbikes for 30 years in Ca and only place they have checked my sticker is at ohv parks, which comprises less than 5% of my time on a bike/atv/utv.

That said I dont have an issue with it.

If you pay cash for a brand new toy, you can ask the dealer to give you all the paperwork and MSO, dont lose it as it shows you are the owner if anything happens or you sell it. Check with dealer, that is what could be done when I worked in a Title Dept. They might be obliged by the state to submit documentation to the state. If that MSO is lost, some manufacturers may only be able to go back five years for a dup MSO. Don't lose anything. Can't stress that enough.

For me, it's more about responsibility. The state doesn't need to mandate stuff-that just adds to the cost of everything. And honestly, if you don't have it, you're a fool-like the incident cited above.

If it's only used on your private property, then you don't need anything.

And if you're transporting it, you only need a moving permit. And it's free.
