Sooo got my bonus and I am now looking for a MIG of my own. My budget is around $500, max $550.

I am torn between the Titanium 170 (I know @EatSleepTacos has been happy with it) A refurb Hobart Handler 190:

    https://www.hobartweldshop.com/factory-refurbished-hobart-handler-190-mig-wire-welder/

    The Eastwood MIG 175:

    https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-mig-welder-175-amp-with-spool-gun.html

    Or the Everlast power MIG:

    https://www.everlastgenerators.com/product/mig/power-i-mig-200e

Typical fabrication projects will be in a closed garage, so using shielding gas on 220v. Materials will be as thin as sheet metal or as thick as 1/4" max steel most likely. Would also love to spoolgun aluminum as well.

Save and buy a bigger Hobart or Lincoln. I recommend the Vulcan 215, I don't do production work. Garage hobbyist here.

I would save and buy the miller 211 or a comparable welder to that. Yea the up front price is a bit more, but it’ll outlast the others and you’ll be happy with the quality

Agreed. Go up as far as you can. A good model is a welder that will last you your lifetime. $1k is pretty cheap when divided out your whole life.

My thing is I can't afford a welder that will last me a life time right now. I need a welder right now for my current projects and have personal things in my life that literally cannot allow me to spend more than this on a welder right now. It's only another $500 but it's literally double than I CAN spend. If I need a lifetime welder, I am hoping I can easily afford it 5 years from now.

Possible to take some sort of personal loan for 500 ish? If you do a side job or two that’ll cover he rest of the welder cost right there

whatever you decide, definitely get something that’s 240 and gas

$500 can get you a gun, use that gun to convince someone on craigslist to give you their welder for free.

I mean literally everything in the list is that. And I already have a 75/25 tank in the garage. At $150 more a hobart handler 190 is the most I think I could possibly push it to. But let's face it. I weld once a month, if that based on projects for the truck. I don't NEED a Millermatic 211. I am not a fab shop.

Buy the one with the best warranty then. Case closed.

I like the Vulcan or Titanium welders from HF. I don't have the models memorized. Just get one that allows the use of gas. In addition, 120 volts is just fine as well.

I have the 140 but same difference, just the 120 version. That little guy is seriously awesome. I respectfully disagree with the others saying to double your budget.

I equate that to someone wanting to buy some old man emu suspension and people tell them to buy Kings. Of course the kings are better but not everyone needs them for the level of stuff they’re doing.

Who did the Refurbishing and what type of warranty ??

Because I know we didn`t do them.

Go with the New Hobart great machines for the weekend welder .

You can at least get them fixed without all kinds of drama.

It was a refurbished model from Hobart directly until I realized they didn't have any in stock. So yeah, going with a brand new Hobart.
