Mountain descent

Is there any way to gear down on a mountain without stopping the truck? (Automatic of course)

 

You should have a choice of 1, 2,3, 4 or drive
Putting it in any gear below drive will use the transmission, not allowing it to go above a certain speed/rpm going down hill.

This. Every time I go down the canyon post-skiing, I drop it in 2 or 3 and just let it hum down the hill.

 

Get dual cases.

 

I know I use “L” and “2” but I have to be stopped to put it in that

 

And yes I have i paper manual I’ve read it all the way through before

 

You're doing it not wrong but not quite right. Just make sure your RPMs are right for your gear choice and speed. Check this out

You talking about going down a mountain on a road or on dirt? If on dirt, use 4low. If on a road in 2wd, just take it out of overdrive by pressing the overdrive button on the AT shifter. Or go into 2nd or even 1st gear depending on how slow you want to go. You do not have to be stopped to take it out of overdrive or to go into a lower gear in 2wd.

 

If I hold down the lock release( button on top of shifter) but it won’t go unless I hold it

 

On road down mtn. So I can hold the release as long as I’m not too high rpm or speed?

 

How come it goes from l to 2 to D to N without holding the button tho

 

Safety, you have to push the button as a last line of defense for you being stupid and putting it in Reverse while driving forward.

 

Should have an overdrive button here (circled in red)



Shouldn't have to hold it down, just press it and it will prevent the trans from going into overdrive (4th gear I believe on the autos)

 

Ok. So I was right about holding the button down to gear down, or it’s ok as long as rpm and speed are relative?

 

I’m talking about big button on top. The overdrive makes sense

The very top button on the shifter yes, you have to hold that down if you want to go into 2nd or 1st gear. And yes you want to make sure you aren't going too fast when going into a lower gear or you'll over rev the engine
