Wanted to see if anyone has done this recently and if its worth it?

I got an email from my dealer that they have "unusually low on preowned inventory" and they have been authorized to offer 100% of original base msrp minus 10-55cents per mile.

I know they just want to get a sale and move inventory, but I've been wanting to upgrade my '18 Sr5 with 8900 miles for a OR and this almost seems to be to good to be true. Wanted to see if anyone has gone through this process before.

Nope, but can’t hurt to see what they’ll give you for yours and what they’ll sell you a new one for. If the trade in is that good and they give you a good price on new you should consider it.

    You got it.

Regardless of the screaming deal they 'give' you for your trade, you'll pay too much for the new one to compensate for it. Just like any trade in.

It's a form of dealer 'phishing' with the goal of 1 out of 90 or so taking the bait.

But you might have fun playing the game.

IF you know what you should walk out the door with the new one for, TTT included, if you were a cash buyer. Then at least you'd know the real deal.

I just got a message from my local dealer for my 2018... They said they can offer me "More than market value for it"

Yeah not believing that... Maybe I'll call and ask if they will trade me straight up for a 2019?

It's just a lure to get you into the dealership and get all hot and bothered about a new Toyota. They'll end up offering you less than you're hoping for for your current truck, but after the test drive and looking at the shiny paint you'll be so excited by the idea of a new car you'll be all "Oh why not" and before you know it you'll be roped into 5 or 6 years of new payments and the dealer will have a few grand profit. Just another Saturday at Car Dealer USA.

My grandma did this with her old kia. They traded her into a lower spec model without telling her. She had the top of the line kia, she got a base kia in return. We talked to the GM and he fixed it by putting in all the things she missed with the new one. BTW my grandma is 93 years old.

Been getting calls from dealer, offering $500.00 over bluebook for trade on new Tacoma. Not worth it for me, still was going to lose around $3500.00 overall on the trade, plus 2 years worth of payments on my 2018.

Um....base MSRP minus 10c a mile is less than market ACV. do the math.

This is my big thing too! Having a vehicle payment sucks! Lots of money that could go else where like mods or trips or toys. I don’t get why people want to go from 1 payment to another. That was a huge reason I went Toyota so I have have a truck that in theory should last years after my payment is up. And now I have a reliable vehicle when I buy my FJ I can buy cheaper and used and fix it up since it’s going to be a off-road monster anyways. Vehicle payments suck and I can’t wait for my last one. Won’t be jumping into anything else new for a LONG time!

I got several calls about my Dakota from the dodge dealership. They kept saying, we have a few people looking for a Dakota and we can offer you a great deal on a Ram. This was after they quit making the Dakota. I told them if they can give me a key for key, title for title swap, no money exchange, no payments as mine was paid for, I would do it. I quit getting those calls after that.

If you can stack incentives it can be a good deal. I’m still seeing $2k back on 2019 Tacomas.
