A lot of electricians and EEs have put forth a lot of good data in an attempt to help the OP with his next steps in this process, which is what he requested. I think mostly all of us are hopeful that he can find the root cause and fix his truck, regardless of whether or not it's his or Toyota's fault. Root cause analysis doesn't give a crap about people's subjectivity and preconceptions. It seems that the anti-Toyota crowd are the only ones wrapped up in identity arguments. Just my .02...

I'm all for Toyota being responsible for their product. But this situation is like "I lifted my truck and now I have vibrations, Toyota needs to figure this out." There are some modifications that can cause issues with a vehicle. Electrical is probably the most notorious for manufacturers. We as humans naturally think we are electricians and start hooking up subwoofers, bright LEDs, under car lighting, overpowered AC/DC converters, etc. The OP has several lighting mods. I don't blame Toyota for not wanting to waste their time and money on a wild goose chase.

It's HIS money, he wants to pay for the diagnosis himself. I know it's a long thread, but you shouldn't make comments if you haven't read every post.

Lol I read just about every post bud. I know he is coming out of pocket now, today. Up until today he has been trying to get Toyota to foot the bill. SIR.

Nope, he offered to pay the labor for more diagnostics and the dealer was willing to take his money, but Toyota Corporate initially told the dealer NOT to do it (Post 1, last paragraph). My questions (and his) is why?

Actually, he's been fighting to try to get Toyota to approve the dealership doing more testing at his expense.

I'm just sitting here on the edge of my seat. Not that I expected a diagnosis first thing this morning, but its 1:30 now and I still haven't heard anything. Maybe they are as perplexed as I am now.....probably not though, probably just a busy Friday at the shop.

I think he knows why. If he pays for it, and they do figure it out. Now they have to refund him any and all fees he pays. Plus more possibly for trouble, time, hassle, emotional distress over being dragged through the mud. They want him to go away.

Also, if I was paying for someone to prove it's a manufacture defect. I would look at a third party. The dealer/manufacturer is going to avoid admitting fault as much as possible here. If a 3rd party states this is a manufacture defect, it sticks better plus they have no motive to avoid finding the truth.

They probably have a line of ravs and highlanders waiting for oil changes.. All those cabin air filters and wiper blades don't just change themselves!

My understanding is he's only using the dealer so that Toyota can't blame any difference on instrument calibration. There could be other factors, but that's the main one I remember being mentioned.

That is exactly it. They also have a direct line to Toyota if the test results in the noise still being present after the aftermarket parts are unplugged and it's my understanding that the dealership has one shiny new TRD Pro headlight sitting in their parts warehouse since Toyota previously approved the repair.

Naw, they're playing rock, paper, scissors to decide which lucky bastard has to call you with his tail between his legs and tell you its been repaired under warranty.

Wouldn't that be something? I think my service advisor would be thrilled to call me and tell me that though. He (former tech) does not believe for one second that aftermarket parts are the cause of the failure. Although he could just be like a stripper telling me what I want to hear........

Looks like the tech got involved in a large job that won't be done until tomorrow afternoon so no new info until Monday. Oh well, another weekend in the beater Jeep!
