Not interested in the bed rack, but I may be interested in that shop if it does side jobs and one-offs :)

Well after watching some YouTube videos about using rattle can paint and clear coat application techniques, i decided to add one final coat of clear to my too box. They all said in one way or another that your last coat should be thick and appear wet as it lays down. I found out that there's a big difference between "appearing wet" and "too fucking wet" as right after I stopped to drink a beer and watch the paint dry, right before my very eyes i watched the base coat spiderweb and lift. At first I thought I was hallucinating from the paint fumes and lack of ventilation, but my eyes weren't fucking around, this time.

How many beers did you have? Are you a 100% sure you didn’t use brake cleaner?

It was about my 4th beer, and I triple checked the can, and it was definitely not brake cleaner. The way I understand it is that too much clear coat in one application and not letting the previous coat dry causes it. The previous coat didn't flash/off gas and then when I applied the next coat the solvents left behind turned the base coat soggy and it caused the lower layers to shrink leaving the result in my picture.

I'm not a body guy but from what I've read and told by our body guy at work, I needed to wait a bit longer between the last couple coats of clear and maybe less clear applied on the last coat. I had it too wet and didn't wait long enough between coats.

Basically when using enamel paint, make sure to give it plenty of time to flash/off gas as it takes longer for the solvents to evaporate from the paint as it dries vs urethane paint.

Sorry just had to ask we had a guy at work this summer drink a few to many wobbly pops while detailing his FJ and managed to buff it out with Go-Jo thinking it was his buffing compound.

Was it the gojo with pumice? Or just the jelly goo kind? The pumice version actually works like a buffing/polishing compound. Since it is a soft material it works great to get swirl marks and other light imperfections out of paint, acrylic, most metals and even glass. Just keep it moist, and not dried out or it gets abrasive quick.. I swear. :anonymous:

Maybe as a prep for a spray in bed liner, but definitely left a couple swirls down the side of the FJ.
