That’s just fucking dirty! I understand a job and making a living but to take advantage like this of a 93 yr ol lady. No different than a technician/service or contractor taking advantage- no respect for this type and imo on the same level as a thief

Thankfully the gm agrees with you. That’s why he went in and fixed it.

No one is forcing the buyer to pay anything. The prices for every vehicle at a dealership are clearly posted, the prices listed on the manufacturers’ websites are clearly posted, and the paperwork clearly states what is being charged. If you don’t go to the dealer desperate to give them your money then you have nothing to worry about.

lol you really are a car salesman.
Yes, employee deals are trash, that’s why you go to any dealer in the country and find paper plates from other dealers in the parking lot. Employees get better deals at competitors.
Toyota’s vendor deal @ 3% over invoice is a garbage also, you can get a better deal with a Costco membership.

And 500 over is a definitely not a steal.
I start at invoice and then want your holdback, make you dip into your model incentives, and you’re eating the TDA.
Charging for floor mats? Yeah get rid of that too. And then I’m taking the customer cash on top of that number.

There's certainly truth to that. So often a "good deal" is a state of mind. There's more to a deal than just raw numbers.

In this age of the over-proliferation of information brought on by the Internet, people bog down on numbers. They'll travel 100s of miles and beat up a dozen salesman to save $50. You couldn't pay me enough to sell vehicles and have to deal with the buying public.

You’re a tough negotiator :) you should be, you work hard for your money, if you can hold on to as much of it as possible, do it!

but the question was a “good deal”, a steal is what you’re describing. And one thing I have learned is that somewhere, someone will accept your offer.
As a consumer it’s your absolute right to shop around and find the best deal for you and your family.
When I buy cars, I personally don’t think about it too hard. The only car I own that I negotiated anything on was my 2017 GT-R. They dealer was trying to hit me with $10000 in market adjustment, which is crap and I refused to pay. Other than that I just make sure they have the car or truck I want. I’m picky with tech and features :)

People ruin their own shopping experience sometimes and get too heated about the deal. The same
People who will pay a premium for a iPhone that costs nothing to make in China will want a barebones deal on a car that gets them to work and back and drives their family. I look at it like buying a home, don’t go house shopping too early and always pay for the one you want. The deal is in getting the perfect home, in the case the perfect car. My wife would force me to pay list price on a house if it was perfect lol. Lots of cars and trucks to choose from, so do your homework on them but if you want a deal, it’s usually too good to be true. A Chevy Colorado will always be less expensive than a Tacoma but I know a few of us here would pay more for the taco :)

Yeah, I have gotten a couple of those letters, regarding my 2009 Toyota Sienna Minivan. They say they are short of inventory, as you mentioned, and really 'need' minivans like mine. That may or may not be true, but in any case, when you take your vehicle to the dealer, indeed, they will certainly 'want' it, but the question is, what are they actually going to PAY you for it? In my case, after receiving the letter, since at the time, I was still in the consideration process in my mind, of buying a new truck, I took our 2009 Sienna in to see what the dealer would offer me for it, since they "needed" it! They offered me $4500! It only has 45,000 miles on it, and even still has the faint "new car smell" in it because we have hardly used it, obviously! And yet, they offered $4500! They said they would put it on the lot for $9995, and that they had to "prep" it for resale, hence, their low offer. Of course it was total BS, and I laughed, as I walked out of the dealership. I DID end up buying my truck from them, but for cash, no trade, and I still have the 2009 Sienna minivan, for sale, with no offers at this time. Hit me up if interested! It is in the San Francisco Bay area and looks like new!

John....judging by your posts you've had a bad dealership experience or two in your day. I get that. But I also think that, as a society, many people have a preconceived notion that all salespeople and dealerships are giant fucking machines out to destroy everyone they can. That's just not always the case.

I alway have a pleasant experience when I'm at my dealership....be it sales, service, parts or body shop. But part of that is because I've cultivated a long 25+ year relationship with them. And that's been intentional. I treat everyone respectfully and they reciprocate. I've bought so many vehicles from them that I know many of the managers by name. They toss me keys and allow me to drive a vehicle home to show the wife without hesitation. They've even encouraged me to keep one from time to time for a couple of days to really see if it's right for us. The parts manager knows me by name and always does his best to match Internet prices that I find on line. There's 1 service advisor that I always make sure I deal with...and again, we know each other by name. Never an issue.

There's another Toyota dealership a few miles away. Never been there. Maybe I could save $50 by going there next time we buy. But my time and "comfort" are worth something to me. So I'll never know.

People have loss the art of building relationships. Or maybe I've just been super lucky over the years.

Over the years, I’ve learned that negotiating by email (used to be fax) directly with the sales manager, in advance, is the best method for me. Then I simply go in with the agreed on price in writing, test drive, deflect the BS, and finish the deal. Makes it easy for everyone.

Negotiating realtime at the dealership puts you at a disadvantage - you are on their turf.

    Yeah.
LOL, this ^. That range of 10 to 55 cents gives them plenty of leeway.

I get letters all the time with offers for vehicles I own and some I no longer own. Just a sales tactic.
