Stolen tailgate

How much?

 

i don't know... what's the going rate for a complete tailgate with camera and everything? 400$?

Toyota ought to pit a plate on the insides or side edges of tailgates with a VIN. Or we as owners ought to mark ours somehow. Would be great to bust a ring of these guys.

 

Quick update: I filed a claim with my insurance company which also required me to file a police report. They're covering all costs after my $500 deductible and the total estimate for a new tailgate (they come primed), paint and installation is just over $3k. Seems insane. This is all through their recommended shop Caliber Collision.

I also went down a rabbit hole on tacoma world (as one does haha) and found several anti theft ideas and products. The $2 hose clamp option is obviously better than nothing and might totally do the trick. Someone actually told me the other day that the tailgate has a vin on it somewhere. I'd never heard this before and not sure if it's true.

 

Got one of these on mine. A pain to put on, a bigger pain to get it back off. I put a spot of JB weld over the hex head to really make it a pain. I don't think a tweaker will take the time.

 

JB weld is a good idea

 

If I ever have to take it off, I might regret it.

 

I did the same. Filed a police report, contacted my insurance and made a claim. They are sending me to get my estimate at Caliber Collision in Whittier CA this week. Hope I get a similar quote. Glad you were able to get a resolution.
